I have over 220hrs of banked PTO. Whenever I take PTO, I don't log it. I use Time2Give while on PTO (un-logged). Guess I'm totally cooked. Not so fast. I will use the WFH trick and the mouse jiggler. Scamming the scammer is ethical.
If having regular and guaranteed PTO wasn't such a big deal, why didn't they leave it the way it was? - well, because it is a big deal, it's a tangible benefit, being in charge of your time off and all that.
I would say that if PTO can be replaced by this "unlimited" garbage, then my manager and his manager can be replaced by a well-designed piece of software.
Having PTO is like having an additional savings account that’s being paid to you and is cashed out when you leave so I understand why people would be upset on that. On the other hand, people who like taking PTO find this news welcoming as they don’t have to worry about not being able to go anywhere.
It's possible to have both a PTO "balance" to cash out when terminated AND take PTO every year. If you built it up, either in the beginning or one week at a time each year, you'd get to a point where you had 200-ish hours of PTO in your "bank" AND get to take 20 days off each year.
Now there is no set limit and managers can gate keep how much time you take, when you take it, etc. Maybe you have a good manager, but there are a LOT of sh---y managers at Cisco. And how will Cisco ensure that every manager is allowing the same amount of time off across the company? Slackers who don't do much can take tons of time off because they don't have as many deliverables. Critical people will not be able to take as much time off because "they're needed for x,y,z project, issue, etc." all the time.

Hard disagree. If it’s bad for employees, it’s bad for shareholders too (infinitely). Hence the stock has performed awfully.
Instead of keeping the decision with the IC, they’ve moved that to the manager level. It’s guaranteed to be abused there - whether requiring an unnecessarily long notification time or rejecting due to “business requirements”.
And I won’t believe any ELT spin about it. They lie and gaslight constantly. So why trust them?
Honestly, PTO and Time2Give has been so shamefully abused by far too many... you reap what you sow. This change should have been implemented years ago; it would have saved gobs of $$$. How many times I heard "I don't want to use my PTO so I'll say I'm sick...", "I'll just say I'm doing Time2Give to extend my time off... or "yeah, I did Time2Give on the weekend so I deserve days off now..." GROSS. Personal integrity needs a comeback. Payback time.
Part of the reason people are up in arms is that there are a bunch of people at this company who take time off but do not log their time off. Well unfortunately for those folks those days are gone. Had enough of stealing from them.

I’ve worked in companies where there is only an allotted amount of days like 14, and you better use them wisely so this would’ve been nice. Either way, let’s just see how this goes. By the way, not every manager is a Na-i wanting to deny your leave. Some of us have great leaders who will work with people’s time off.
PTO is so 2015
It's really not big deal for people that actually use their pto. I'll actually more than likely take more time off. It will be interesting to see how managers in TAC handle it. It will either get abused or they will lock it down and require a long notice period.

So, over a couple of years since this oppressive policy has taken hold everywhere, you've worked in multiple companies, and you never had an issue ... because you never had time to accrue any vacation! You just took vacation while everybody else worked their butt off.

Should have switched years ago
Most of the industry has already moved this direction. Is it a boon to the books? Sure. Is it a boon to employees as well? Can be, with the right leadership. I've worked for multiple companies now with "non-accrual" PTO, and never had an issue with taking time off. Reasonable limitations have been in place around holidays, and numbers of team members off at the same time, but I've had no issues thus far...
