Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

If I hear one more leader say "it's time to focus on work and not your anxiety"

I'm going to fu----g snap. These leaders are so incredibly out of touch with the reality of this situation it's disgusting.

Because the job market isn't good right now and it may take some time to find a job over the time they pay severance for. Some people may have a depleted emergency fund right now and have a family they need to support, a mortgage or rent to pay, etc.

Where are you seeing info about the severance package? I've seen nothing.

2 months notice plus 2 weeks per year of service is not a great package.

Makes me sick. Heard that exact sentence twice today, empty words to cover because there's no logical explanation for the chaos the EC have strewn the past 5 weeks. Is total chaos good for business?

I agree. I normally do not have anxiety but they say Schwab has handled this I now know what it’s like. How can we focus on the job right now? I just got married and we are expecting our first child. I’m the provider for my new family and the thought of being jobless right now would be horrible. Whatever happens though I’ll find a way but I will never forget this Schwab. I will treat you how you treat me going forward

@zvw+1nORcahb Ricky said it during the Summer Update too.

It is the message they agreed on to repeat to each organization to quell fears. Out of touch.

Yeah, you can't possibly understand why someone might have anxiety about:

  1. Not knowing if it's them or not
  2. Not knowing when it's going to happen
  3. Potentially losing their job during one of the hardest job markets in recent history
  4. Potentially losing their job during one of the hardest economic times in recent history
  5. Potentially losing their job...period (some people actually love their jobs)
  6. Trying to sort through the bullsh-t communications and see what's actually going on
  7. Figuring out how to absorb the work of team members who are impacted, now with less resources

...I mean I could keep going.

People are anxious because the job market su-ks for a job seekers right now. And it just su-ks to be unemployed even if you have a severance, but yes, it’s not going to be all terrible and we are lucky to have generous severances

It’s not about the severance packages… it’s about the ability to control your own life - not everyone will get 100 days of severance. Not everyone will be able to find a job quickly. Humans crave stability. This ain’t it.

I don't know why people have anxiety about this given the good severance packages.

Yeah I was very surprised she said that. In that past, she's been a lot more in touch. She's been promoted a lot in the last few years. Maybe the higher in the org you go, the more likely you'll lose touch with the rank and file. Very disappointed.
