All I can say on this subject is Good Luck trying to do the job we do now.Until you walk in my shoes do not assume you can do my job! You have no idea what I do and how I do it! My little dept makes more with fewer people than any other department in the club!

There are at least 2 clubs in our market that the optical manager's aren't even licensed. Talk about a waste of payroll.

In response to 3dwo, seems you are not aware of your competition. Your little 20k a week seems like high volume but it’s nothing compared to the 5-10k a day that the office across the street from you is doing. My point was, Sam’s Optical is so mismanaged and can’t figure out how to get to that level with the poor direction from the executives. They are now hiring order takers versus top talent. They even have an app they are developing where the patient makes their own selections on the iPad and all you are needed for are the measurements. Sorry...I’ll stay at home and do my own order on Zenni.

@1bzq...you're and id–t. Clearly the location you worked at was not a busy one. You can speak for yourself but dont you dare clump all optical managers together. Some locations, like the one I work at, is insanely busy 24/7. Just because you went to a private place where you probably have to do all the billing and all the other stuff that comes along with a private place, does not mean us sams managers dont know a "real job". Get over yourself. You left, seems like you couldnt handle it. So good luck working harder and probably gettinf paid less. Have a nice day!

To those that feel the optical manager deals with a lot, I’m a former optical manager. I left to go manage a private practice. All I can say is, the Sams job is gravy. If any of you decide to leave, you will realize how easy you had it at Sams. I am much happier and the environment is not toxic. But I will be the first to tell any of you, you have no idea what work is. Other places doing 5-6 times the business that we do at Sams Optical. The position is not needed at Sams because there are support managers in the club to assist with problems.

Mine is always in the dept dealing with all the sh– that comes from the market manager. She is one of the best managers I've ever had. You're gunna get your good ones and bad ones...just like everywhere else.

Our optical manager is a joke. Never in the dept.,makes us handle all issues with members ,and milks the clock like crazy. I can only give him props for doing the audit.

@1dom...the optical manager might only manage a few people but the responsibilty they have on their shoulders is intense. Especially in the licensed states. They deal with any and all optical related customer issues...which we all know have sky rocketed since this company changed around alot last year. All the glasses and contacts that leave the optical are the managers responsibilty. All the screaming customers because the wait is long or the glasses are wrong are the optical mngrs responsibilty. The other managers in the building are not qualified for these issues. Just like the optical manager is not qualified to deal with fresh issues. So, even though it's a small area..have some respect for the hard work they actually do every day. But yes, the company is gearing up to dump them on their butts. They are trying to cut any of the higher paids postions in the club.

Yes and that is what they are going to do. In the licensed states, they are going crazy trying to fill all spots, 3 licenses including optical manager. Then once all the spots are filled, they are cutting out the manager. This has been in the works for a while. Any other clubs out there having so much pressure to hire more opticians? I bet you do and this is why.

The optical manager position is not needed. Who do they manage? One or two people at most. They can eliminate that position easily and save on wages.

Lol "fully staffed". We have been understaffed for years and they keep making us cut hours in optical.

Going to cut some pharmacy and optical managers out after the areas are fully staffed.
