Sale Of Fios In Certain Areas As Verizon Teams Up With Competitor?

Verizon announced late last month that it was disbanding their local news network entirely laying off nearly 200. A move that baffled most as network was formed to compete with cable giant and number 1 competitor Cablevision's News Channel 12 in the New York-New Jersey area.

Cablevision since sold to French company Altice who has invested Billions into the company running a brand new Fiber to the prem network combined with new home equipment and new IMG. Their network is now on par if not better than Verizon.

Verizon this week has announced a partnership with Altice to pick up their News Channel 12 network and broadcast it to Verizon customers.

These two once fierce competitors are now joining together to serve the same customers?

Verizon is going one way only now.....5G Not Fios.

If I worked in an area for Verizon that is extremely slow with no work and the competition is Altice....This tells me that your check may say Altice in the future.

Altice wants this business....Verizon does not.

Verizon is starting to give it to them.

@6vfl. You know the French they put on airs. They need to put a show until this Moroccan CEO implements the takeover. You know it is coming they already have a sharing agreement for News 12.

If Altice is buying FIOS as OP implies, then why is Altice still aggressively building out their fiber to the home network?

yes 4euv the French will buy out NY and run it with their Moroccan butcher. Look at the other posts. It is certain that certain areas will suffer this fate. They have already started distributing their news channel.

So the OP's point is that VZ has no interest in Fios because of all the real or perceived negatives the business possesses, yet somehow because of a content sharing agreement it is all but obvious that Altice is intent on spending Billions to challenge NY 's regulatory bodies and create a monopoly in one of the most expensive and densely
populated areas of the country. I don't know about you but when I imagine a pipe dream something like this would come to mind. Now that pot is legal it seems more are partaking on its use.

@3bbe. To answer your question as to why would Altice "share" news 12 the answer is simple. Money. They are not Dolan. He had quite the arrogant ego and is quite the a–, vindictive and always a problem for NYC. He is central to the reason there is no stadium on Manhattan. He is no longer in the picture regarding news 12. The new owners obviously see value to what big VZ is paying them. The idea they could or would even want to attempt purchase of their footprint's only competitor necessitating them to simultaneously defy or challenge countless regulatory restrictions the biggest being monopoly status as well as the need to raise billions in capital to fund such purchase is absolutely ludicrous.

I find it hard to believe anyone without a d–g addled mind could give any credence to this fantasy.

Disney will buy us out before Altice. Something has been brewing since they started giving us access to Duck Tales remake. You just know they would never share that. Why would they?

OP makes no sense. VZ is buying content from Altice. They also buy content from competitor Comcast which owns NBC, USA, Bravo. They buy content from AT&T owned HBO and Turner (TBS, TNT, CNN).

Comcast mobile and Spectrum mobile goes over Verizon's wireless network. They partner but are not selling out to one another.

OP has no clue....

This would never be a prove it would be a monopoly on Long Island and some other areas

@1yzz Exactly now they can keep or switch to vz. That is why VZ feels it is worth it to pay Altice rather than fund their own studio. Altice gets extra cash out of it

@1vic Does the Yankees share their runs with the Red Sox?

News Channel 12 was the ONLY reason a huge percentage of people DID NOT SWITCH TO VERIZON!

I'm sure the Yankees are not going to "share" any runs with the Red Sox when they are COMPETITORS and the Yankees want to WIN!

@1ccc Content sharing is exactly what it is. They "share" or rather sell it to VZ at price that Altice demands. The reason they do this is to profit.

@1vkr the one thing Altice had going for them was News Channel 12.... many Verizon customers that switched to fios immediately switched back on learning that Verizon didn’t carry that channel and even more didn’t switch at all.

Verizon fios 1 News was created just because of this. People did not want to lose there local News Channel 12

It’s not about content sharing it was an exclusive channel that millions didn’t want to lose and Verizon didn’t have

Why would they give that exclusive channel that millions want to their largest competitor?

Unless News Channel 12 has become it own entity and not controlled by Altice or one day Verizon customers on the fiber will be theres.

I'm not seeing any altice fttp network near me. Same c-appy network they've always had, that can't deliver on its promises.

You have a rather goofy take on this news and quote it somewhat correctly "VZ has announced a partnership with Altice to pick up News 12 and broadcast it to its customers". This development is just par for the course. In their typical fashion VZ has failed once again in committing to the creation of their own content. They are just going to pay a vig to Altice rather than continuing with their own production operation. How one spins the purchase of content to be distributed over their network as a sign of their intent to sell or merge with a competitor in a shared franchise area is puzzling and likely would not pass legal muster even if true. They don't create their own cartoons and instead distribute the Disney Channel. Will this mean the mouse ears are destined to be part of our corporate attire? Content and distribution are completely different entities.
