Just when you thought it was over. Rumors from leadership in Dearborn of Sept 2019 PRP. Offers similar to 2018, except voluntary up to 35 years of service and mandatory at and above 35 years. Hatchet wants the old timers and pension obligations gone. He couldn't do any more to the older employees in his Smart Redesign without massive age related lawsuits. Here he comes again. I wish I had the years of service and age. They can have my Ford job. I'm sickened by our lame leadership.

PRP at Ford is the best opportunity for those who qualify. Speaking from experience.
- You get paid for doing nothing for 6 months.
- There is no need to train the new younger employees, they are better than you at Excel spreadsheets and making PowerPoint presentations.
- You can double dip with having income from multiple sources, if you have technical skills and knowledge - NOT Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations.
Fact - Ford has already had one PRP under Hackett offered in May of 18'. :)
Read “NO” PRP UNDER hacket!!!😡😡😡
"Why would they offer it" they offer it in 18' May. It was to get folks on the pension nearing retirement to think about leaving.
Severance for most fired/layed off was the same with 20 years or more time in.
Terms were 55 yoa minimum 10 years service.
So the question becomes if they did t once why wouldn't they do it again.
I'm betting they do it again
If they offer the PRP again - take it. One guy I knew who got the axe in May 2019 turned down the offer in 2018 and regretted it. If he had taken the PRP, he would have left Ford in late 2018 with a 9 month severance package and a head start with finding another job . Instead he worked full time 60 hr a week during those 9 months and ended up with without or a job or a severance on May of 2019.
Why would Ford now offer PRPs after going through a round of firings (not Layoffs!).
What advantage would it give to Ford at this point???
I did the PRP last fall - it was awesome. My replacement came on board within a month, trained her, and then I had absolutely nothing to do for the remaining 3 months. Easy money!!!
@10cEUnMd-ejxa Why would you want to return to Ford after leaving? After getting the tap from Ford in May. A week latter Fords was asking me to come back as a contractor, two weeks latter GM recruiter contacted me. I declined both. I am done with the auto industry. The level of corruption and incompetence has reached new heights. Even the uaw has well documented corruption. My prior coworkers all say, it is like that in all companies, just take their money. Nope, the thing is the more you associate with gutter rollers the dirtier you feel and some actually become. Freedom and a clean conscious are more precious than some extra dollars. And no, all companies are not like the auto industry Some companies actual focus on their core business and reward employees who contribute to the bottom line. I took my time and found one. Amazing not to have to pull fifty knives out of my back before lunch, and to accomplish in a week what it routinely took Fords a year to halfxssed accomplish in a year.
The “Work from Home”, er babysit my kids, watch TV, chat on the phone, watch tv is sure a nice Ford benefit. I had coworkers “WFH” twice a week and doing 4x10, so they only really did anything 2 days a week at best. The entitled to work 20 hours and get paid for 40 is common place.
The other thing I find hilarious after the fact, is how many Ford IT think they are such genius and innovative. The sad fact is Ford IT is the bottom of the barrel. Each person knows just one little thing and not how to put things together. Then to make themselves feel important they set up a system of request tickets and approvals system and make other teams wait three months for a 5 minute task. Then PMs are brought in to manage what should be a week project because Fords IT blows it up to a year project. There were a few exceptional IT, all of those had a career before Ford and were great before coming to Ford. Fast forward to new job. Every single person in IT is competent and vastly superior to Fords employees. Everyone is supportive and works together toward a common goal.
What I learned at Ford was how to get around the system of roadblocks set up to prevent people from doing work, and that those who established the roadblocks will spend all their time sabotaging the careers of people who actually get things done in IT. Thankfully I no longer need that skill.
I frankly do not see how Fords ever makes a profit. The IT quality problems are evident to everyone, including customers.
I sure hope they offer PRP again, either later this year or early next year, as I want to be able to leave on my own terms, and I am mentally ready to leave at this point. In fact, I am praying I'll able to go on the PRP program within a year and be able to leave.
The thing that has moved me off the fence was the fact that as I was working from home this past Friday (wife had dropped off daughters from tennis camp and had to go into work for a late afternoon meeting and we were not going to pay for another summer camp for less than half a day) when i get a call - it was from recruiter looking for some with 10 plus years IT PM experience to run an IT portfolio. When I asked who the enc client was, I was shocked when he said Ford. If that is not incentive enough to leave, I don't know what is....it is obvious now if it was not then what the plan is, namely to get as many people still eligible to draw pensions off the day to day books as soon as possible.
Fact is, if I play my cards correctly, I might be able to go on PRP, "retire", then wait a few weeks and be right back at Ford working for a supplier......think about the irony of that for a moment and let it sink in.
If it is offered again, I will now qualify and strongly think about taking it if it is like is was in 2018 (work for 3 months straight then 3 months off, or work part time for 6 months....and get 9 months lump pay on top plus transition assistance). Fact, I was hoping they would offer it early this year...
With 20 years in at Ford and nearing mid 50’s, thinking it is time to move on and try something else. Might have to anyway, as my wife lost her job with s Ford supplier due to all the cutting this year - she us likely only to find a job out of Metro Detroit area (either in Grand Rapidd area or Atlanta seem to be most promising places). One thing I will not miss if we have to go are the over inflated housing costs in metro Detroit...
Thing I am sad about is the nature of work as it is nowadays....there used to be pride in the ability to have a long career in one company, but that has been blown up over the last twenty years in general. As one already mentioned, Ford really had no bench anymore of people to set up for management ranks....does not bode well for next 5 to 10 years.
If you can, get out. I assure you life after Ford is great! There are plenty of jobs and opportunities out there. Great companies with actual leadership. My attitude, work life balance, morale, and no longer having to work for dysfunctional managers (notice I did not say leaders) is the best thing that ever happened to me. My exiting last May was a blessing in disguise! Thank you Ford for forcing me to seek better opportunities! I probably would have never done it on my own.
I am waiting for the PRP offer later this year. It’s time to get the heck out of Ford and move on to a better company with a better future.
There is always Feb of 20' :)
Fingers Xrossed
HR better remove the “ no PRP’s will be offered in 2019” from its employee website so as not to confuse the folks who want to move on 🤣🤣🤗🤗
It is sad. They’ll realize when they have eliminated all of the “silver backs” that all of the knowledge, wisdom and dedication went with them. All companies need fresh new skills but they also need wisdom to guide the newbies. The new and the wise learn from each other. Sadly that is not the new culture.
I am hoping it is not just a rumor :(
Could you elaborate on where and who - is the source of 'rumours from leadership in Dearborn?'
Which leaders?
Yes yes yes take the prp as we did last November because we knew what was coming.
I doubt they will offer prp again. Why would they after setting the precedent of firings?
My advice to anyone offered the PRP is take it. If you don't, they will pressure you, smear you with lies, make up false HR cases, anything to get you to leave. I cannot believe they are getting away with this but what can employees do–sue Ford? Good luck with that–it will take years and you probably won't win. If your manager isn't close to 30 years and you are, they will do whatever to smear you and save their own butt. I've never seen it like this, even back in the 2000's with the Way Forward cuts. It's a sin and don't let your kids work there. Not a good introduction into the corporate workplace.
This is all part of plan - we are going to create such a toxic culture, that when the next PRP roles around, the company will get 100% participation. Then the company can spout off in the press what a great “Family” company they are. Company spends more money getting rid of, hiring, training/retraining employees then building vehicles.
Make room for the young generation - good luck with that. Is that the group that expects to telecommute four days a week. Wants to start work at 9:30 go home at 2:30. The group that whines when they are expecting to work over to complete a task, and complain when they have not gotten a promotion after being on the job for 10 months, while expecting to be denoted a “Top Achiever” every year... I can’t wait to see the level of prosperity the company will enjoy when this group is in leadership positions.
Take the PRP and leave please. You all need to go and make room for the young generation.
count me in!
Looking forward
Seems unusual to offer it in September. It takes a while to implement and it is a 6 month program. I would think Ford would want the people off of the books by 12/31/19 - like last year.
