Thread regarding Sears layoffs

New York Stores

Any word on the closure of either the Poughkeepsie Sears or Horseheads Sears? I keep hearing there will be a list released in October but if someone knows something about the future of these stores right now, please let us know.

the question is: Why are the money pits in NYC still open? oh wait, its the real estate. when the right buyer comes along, they'll be gone.

@2zfo Hi buddy, this is "1gtf" again. As for Watching trucks or putting up signs, LOL, I can't do any of that as I don't work for the company. I can't even make observations as a customer, because there is no store within 100 miles of me LOL! So I am neither a customer, nor an employee, but just an interested neutral observer so to Speak. I did work for Kmart in NJ back in 2001, but that was 18 Years ago, & is ancient news now. I live in North Dakota now, and as I mentioned, no stores near me.
As for stores with no openings listed, a few examples are Bismarck ND (which is about 120 miles from me), and also Kingston PA. There are others like that too (admittedly not many). You can Check that jobs website when u have Some Time.

@1gtf

Well that’s the exception not the rule so it could swing either way but there are some stores proactive enough that they’re staffed. Usually though there is something open. Most of the closing ones list ONLY seasonal positions. If it has normal positions listed within the past few weeks it probably isn’t closing at least not immediately.

Other clues are fairly obvious. Watch the flow of merchandise. Are you getting a lot? Is it from other stores or is it just regular trucks? Are you signing the latest signs? Can customers order to the store for pickup?

You have 2 options

  1. Continue to stress about something you have no control over.
  1. Be proactive and find other employment

@1bol What about stores that are not yet lisd as closing, but have NO job openings listed? Does that mean the store is fully staffed or probably soon to be closing?

Just go to Sears careers. If the store isn't hiring anything that isn't simply "Seasonal" its probably closing in the next round. If its hiring normal positions it probably isn't... yet. Its probably not foolproof, I'm sure there are staffed stores out there somewhere that only need seasonal people, but its a fairly good indication.

You are on the list guaranteed. Why would you stay open?
