Thread regarding Sears layoffs

How long does it take for a store to fully close?

How long does the liquidation process take? And in what dynamique are workers let go?

It varies, depending on how quick they want to shut the doors. One store closed in 3 weeks. Packed up must of their stuff and shipped out to another store or the liquidators warehouse. He owns the stuff anyway.

I had fun selling fixtures. It turned into a big garage sale and the liquidator let me take over and sell for what I thought made sense. He said just get rid of it so I don’t have to pay to have it hauled off to the dump.

This is like asking how long it takes Titanic to sink. Semantics, really, as within Few Weeks, it will all be a very moot point.

Been liquidating since mid August no one has been let go yet and they hired about 20-30 people right after the announcement probably in the next couple weeks they will not too much stuff left now to sell should mainly just be fixtures left after that

@cho Not really always. I was at Bradlees and ours was a high volume store in NJ, with high inventory levels. Not only did we have a fully stocked store, we even had "off-site storage" for various goods like Rubbermaid, etc.. I thought for sure it would take about 2 Months minimum.
Didn't work that way. Closing was announce around Dec. 15, 2000. Store was closed on around Fedb. 1, 2001, only 6 Weeks after. In fact the store was half empty by New Years.
And no, everyone wasn't kept til the end (at least with Bradlees). We started laying people off right after Christmas, and more and more as the staff grew more skeltal towards the end. Towards the end, there was only Salaried management left (since they don't have to Pay them OT, etc.), plus a few "mules" to carry around the shelving. They kept the lowest Earning Hourly people around towards the end for that reason. This was handled by Gordon Bros. Liquidating, perhaps other companies are different.
In short, though, this process is a lot faster than you think. It's there 1 Day, gone The Next. Almost like it was never there.....my store was Bradlees on US 46 in Totowa NJ (right near WillowBrook mall) if anyone cares.

3 months, everyone is kept through closing day to public, only need approx. 8 people for final week of packing up and moving out for good.
