Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Next round?

So when will the next round likely be announced? In December, or maybe not til January, 2020? Might there be some This Week?

Well the September round (closing in December) should be just about chopped down by now, so me thinks, we are due for another round or 2!

It's been every two months for a long long time

@2aaq I don't think so either, so I expect a huge announcement soon.

I don't think they have enough cash to survive after December

@wfh You are right about that pattern. Around Sep. 1, they announced the closings that happen in December. Then 2 Months later, in November, they announce the closings for February. So the next should be 2 Months past That, so maybe a January announcement for closures in April? Something like that. Do you think they will be mainly Sears, mainly Kmarts, or a pretty even mixture of both?

Smart vendors won't do business with a financial unstable company like Sears. And given Eddie's nasty habit if not paying vendors on time I don't blame them.

I wouldn’t believe anything transformco says about what depts are going forward
This is the same group that said they were buying the company to save jobs and stores
Hmmmm let’s see .... think that statement was true?
So I don’t really believe they are trying to keep soft lines going
Every one of eddies press releases has said he wants to move forward with a smaller store concept that does not include clothing

Based on history I’d say in depth discussion will begin in January-February and the announcement will be in March-April.

I dont know anymore about getting out of soft lines. When I was let go, it was said it was just going to be much smaller and supplemented with a sourcing group which other smaller retails use too. I think it is similar to an external buying group. Anyways it is not that they arent buying product as they still are actively working on future product from the people I know that still have jobs. Just could not support all the associates they used to have in HE due to the smaller number of stores......nothing more nothing less to be read into it.

@12hjFhEV-1zva I thought they wanted to get out of softlines?

Most of the buyers in soft lines were let go as they are opting to move forward with a sourcing group to supplement the soft lines buyers that are still there. The sourcing group will supply a lot of the soft lines product going forward. They just did not need all of us with so few stores. That part is believable. The hard lines buyers are still working with vendors for future product.

There is no merchandising ordered for the stores for summer 2020 or fall 2020 because most of the buyers were let go in the last round of layoffs
So the stores will be all be closing sometime in the spring

Except someone mentioned about possible tax write-offs IF the company could survive into 2020. So I think this next round of closings will be big but not fatal. I think a small number of stores will survive into January 2020, so that Mr. Lampert can qualify for those write-offs. I say final nail in coffin might not be until January/February 2020. And states with multiple Sears/Kmarts will be the only ones left. States with only one Sears or one Kmart will be gone. And Guam will be the last Kmart to fall.

Definition is in the dictionary. Also the writing is on the wall. Shelves empty, gapping everywhere, freight not coming in. These store's are huge and gapping only goes so long.

What’s your definition of massive?

The first round are done on the Dec 2. Soon after announcing another round with liquidation starting January 1. This round is going to be massive.

Seems like they'd do it right after Christmas as they'd have their excuse ("Revenues off, sales were lower than projected")

If you look at the routine, it seems to be every two months. This would place it sometime in December for the next (final) round. We've already got stores scheduled to close in December, and now that we're through Black Friday, there's another excuse to shutdown more stores- you didn't make the $10 billion sales quota, you're cut! This is just a game at this point, a game no store can ever win.
