Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford retiree benefits increased significantly and it appears to be retroactive

Imagine my surprise when I saw an unexpected debit charge of $1775 for Ford insurance. I was SRD'd in May and declined their medical benefits because I was eligible for Medicare.

We learned during open enrollment that Ford Retiree medical benefits were increasing significantly for those not yet eligible for Medicare but I don't think anyone realized that would be retro-active to include the benefits during the severance period. Certainly didn't think it would apply to someone who didn't take the coverage.

I'm fighting it but you know how that goes. On hold for hours each time I call to talk with people who are clueless.

They are shameless!

@1bci I am fortunate that I receive my medical benefits through the VA. Others are not so much. If and when companies shed their healthcare plans, I don't know many people that can really afford the outrageous costs of heath plans. Families will have to sacrifice their budgets to pay for their medical plans impacting their spending in the economy and many, many others will take their chances and go without.

(Insurance is a scam until you need it. The healthcare industry has the deductible figured out that they take all your money and you pretty much have to pay for everything anyway unless something catastrophic occurs.)

The healthcare industry would take a huge hit. I have heard that for every auto worker that gets laid-off, it impacts 7 other jobs. I imagine this is similar for the healthcare industry.

I do blame the company, but I'll tell all companies are trying to get out of the business of offering Healthcare, it's just to big of an expense. I don't blame them, it's time we all fight this monster companies and individuals. It's a joke how expensive it is, that industry needs a haircut on the worst way.

Don’t even start with the NESC, absolutely a disgrace to all those who devoted there life to this company to be treated like sh– going through this group. The operation is totally setup to separate you from the company with “clerks” who have zero equity for your entitled benefits. I rolled all my 401 funds, stock options, took lump pension and said adios. Not spending another minute dialing that number to speak to a clueless individual who can’t even provide there name. I’m embarrassed that I actually thought the company cared about its employees - it’s all on me....

I sympathize, been dealing with NESC /Castlight bozos for a year. They truly are not HR reps they are rent a rep. people reading from scripts that put you on hold to look up the process to wipe their own nose.
I don't think suing is possible - there are so many layers and circles of chaos there are no humans that actually accept any responsibility or have any authority to resolve a benefits issue. Good luck.

Yes they are shameless. I chose the coverage that was available during the severance period and each time I tried to use it I didn’t have coverage. Not for medical, dental or optical. I’ll be contacting my lawyer. Being charged so much for benefits I didn’t get is horrible. I can’t imagine that it’s legal. I’m disappointed on so many levels. To be a productive high performer who was “eliminated” before a pension milestone only to be replaced by a youngster was painful. To continue being fleeced for benefits I never received really is salt in the wound. I was one of those crazy loyal employees who thought Ford was a wonderful and ethical employer. It’s embarrassing to have been that loyal to an employer that turned out to be so ruthless. Henry must be turning in he’s grave.
