Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

When does Sam's Club announce closings?

Is there a specific time each year when they "clean house" or is it unpredictable?

If you want to know if you're potentially on the chopping block, go to a category that has a ton of active items (candy / HBA / office supplies) and scan each item that is semi low quantity. If you're seeing nothing on order for anything, good chance something bad is happening. 2 Years ago the announcement happened on the 2nd week of January. Unlikely we'll see massive closures like that for a few more years. Overall, if you're not profitable for multiple years or your growth is stagnant with low profitability, you're on a list somewhere.

@3qpo it would have been earlier. Get back to work.

It would have been today. Dodged a bullet this year!

@1hre they technically do give 60 days. They tell you about it and pay you for 60 days while you are free to transfer to another Sam's or Walmart or find other employment. I'm not sure why so many were complaining about such short notice. It is amazing to be told you will get paid for 2 months to job hunt. And if you don't want to look for something else, they will place you in a different location. Honestly what is wrong with that??? I would rather it be this way rather than being told 60 days in advance, but having to work the entire 60 days then be stuck with nothing afterwards.

The WARN Act — that's Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act — is a federal mandate that requires employers to provide 60 days notice before closing a store or plant, or executing a mass layoff. But it applies only to companies with 100 or more full-time employees.

2 years ago they announced club closings January 11, 2018. They then spent the next 2 weeks selling everything in the store and then officially closed. If there were to be any closings this time it would have already been announced because they will not want to owe a paycheck for labor hours into the fiscal new year.

How many clubs found out that they are losing t-b-cco in February?

It would be next week. That would be the middle of the last pay period of the year.

Usually in January. I think it would have been announced already if they were going to do that this year.
