Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

It's really over

There are 1,100 employees left at wly. By mid year there will only be 400. You guys do the math. They will be going back to the way it was in 2007. Mark my words, it's going to happen. You can keep crossing your fingers or just continue to be ignorant to the fact that it's over. Even when the market turns, what do you think is going to happen there? Do you think that you are going to get flooded with subsea packages? If you think that then you are dead wrong. These subsea packages come in cycles and the last one before the one we just had was in the early 80's. Didn't come back around for 20 years. The rig count is down to around 600 in production. This time last year it was at 1600, so what happened to the 1,000 drill ships and rigs and where did they go? Simple they call it "cold stacking". This means they are parked somewhere in a shipyard or shallow waters in storage. When it turns around again. You will have these 1,000 drilling rigs ready to go again. That means no new builds for decades. Get the f--- out of there before you lose out on what's out there now.

How is this post PATHETIC? listen- LISTEN- the only pathetic thing about this post is the high estimate of 400. 200 is more like it. If you are not looking for a job and just hoping/praying you will stay, you are doing a disservice to yourself and anyone who depends on you. Not to be NEGATIVE- but seriously try to see what's out there. It won't hurt. Managers are telling their direct reports that they should be looking for a job. Layoffs will come hard in March. 20% more is expected just before Q2-2016. Then more...

Facilities like both WLY locations, 529, Bammel arent going anywhere anytime soon, a reduction in workforce maybe, but this is the nature of the beast. All oil based companies are slow.

I was a recipient of the National Supply carnage "layoffs" in 1985. They shut numerous stores in one day and take no prisoners. I wish you all well!

I agree with most of this but I would have to disagree with your theory about Oil recovering in BOP stacks not being built. The turnaround process in that would take no longer than six months before BOP production is put completely back on track again.

Hate to break it to those on here who think that bringing it down to 400 employees won't happen. I work at another NOV location and saw many go who I never thought would be let go. Soon the whole office will be gone as the shutdown has been announced recently. Yes, it is that bad and almost no one is safe. It can be predicted that NOV will operate on a skeleton staff for some time.

You obviously do care cos you're bitter.

No panic attack for anyone at WLY. We're not oblivious to the situation at hand and no one needs an alert from you on a Saturday morning when everyone is handling their personal business.

You seem terribly hurt by NOV letting you go. Sigh ...

Btw I don't work there anymore and haven't for some time. I dont give a f--- about what happens there and frank springett Lied to all of you. If he were to tell the truth there would be a major disruption in what they are trying to achieve as far as quarterly numbers. Don't be fooled. You guys remember what I said in my original post because it will come to pass.

Maybe you are spreading panic so people quit and you are assured at retaining your position or climb up. Either way lets chill and enjoy the super bowl weekend. We can start all over on Monday. See ya then.
