Sears eliminating electronic departments

We were told in my sears store that the electronic department was going to be eliminated this year in our store. Also mattress department will be combined with appliances. Have other stores been told the same information? We are b store, I do not know if this is true in the larger markets.

@GggE5zG-cBmja I have also heard the same that they were bringing electronics back. I don't even know why we still have electronics in our store their is nothing and yet they get hours for doing nothing.

Last time the issue was vendors not getting their money and thats why electronics just looks like a skeleton. Good to know that the idea was all false hope that electronics was coming back had a feeling it was all a lie.

I read on Pebble they were bringing back electronics in many stores but recently I heard that plan was scrapped because vendors refused to ship due to lack of payment.

My sears had a large electronics department less than 2 years ago (nothing too outdated). Lots of TVs along the walls. Plenty of MS/Sony gaming products. I decided to browse there recently, and the entire department had vanished, taken over by appliances. Sad. As a kid, I used to sit there and play with the Nintendo display (that reset every few minutes!).

The same has happened to our electronics department as well but they merged us into the appliance department. All I'd wish for was to have been given more to me for training instead of just shoving us in there right away. I will surely miss focusing on just electronics though 😭

Our electronics department in the store were I work is slowly going away and has merged with the appliance department. Since Sears is trying to save money, I wonder how much longer till they go hourly. I also heard that the appliance and mattress is going to merged together.

We have nothing worth buying in electronics anyway. Old, outdated goods with no computers, tablets, games, movies, cell phones etc. So no great loss. (except to the bottom line)

Our electronics department consist of some headphones, a few TVs, a few clock radios, a row of accecsories, some DVD/CDs and a shelf full of VHS tapes (yes, you read that right). No video games, no computers, no cameras, no tablets. Really nothing made in the last five years.

I was a 38 yr QMT and let go 3/4/16. Teir 1 & 2 stores are to have their electronics cut by 50% and teir 3 stores are to be removed completely.

There's another reason that folks won't be shopping at Sears. Since the men's clothing quality and selection went to hell, folks switched to buying from Walmart and Kohl's. It used to be THE place to shop for tools, men's clothing, and electronics. Now, no interest in going into a Sears.

Not sure about taking the entire dept out, but my store and others in the area have been slowly reducing the size of electronics every few months for the past few years. All leads were let go and all stores had the cash register/display cases removed. The first big move was when we stopped selling video games and video game systems and every new layout shrinks in size.... we do not sell mattresses but we have basically replaced half the electronics department with appliances and as the elec. shrinks the appliances grow bigger and we carry more with every new reset. I wouldn't be surprised if it is completely done away with because there is little to no money to be made in consumer electronics and the margins are so small.

For example, if an employee bought a PS3/4 or a XBox (when we still sold them), the store would actually lose money because with our 10% discount we were paying less than what the store actually paid for the unit. Replacing it all with mattresses and/or more appliances may be the best idea.
