@pqd...im not disagreeing with you..just have learned that I may not agree with some things but understanding helps. I was laid off in 2010, didn't take the buyout, and played an active role in fighting it..testified before the SCC, passed out flyers, met with state delegates, anything that I could be a part of to put pressure on the company. I was hired back along with 83 others in my local 10 months later. I didn't resent the union..they did not lay me off..they are the ones that provided a path and a vehicle to fight it. Then, gave me the honor to call those 83 that believed in the fight and tell them we got our job back...and this is in Virginia where the mere mention of unions turns people against you. So I know it's not perfect but at least it gives you a fighting chance. ..and... sometimes you win.

Calm down. I'm post 03 too but have an understanding where the pre 03 protection originated.NOT from contract negotiations. It was an agreement between the union and compay that we would not fight the merger. It protected everyone employeed at that time from layoff due to the merger. So, that particular agreement has been renewed several times since. Nobody's going into bargaining not caring for post 03s it's just hard enough to get that agreement renewed as it is considering the circumstances in which it came about is long gone
