Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Severance Check

How much does Chevron withhold on the Severance check? Also is it just Federal and/or State Taxes or does it also include Social Security?

@HjpPKg5-9noq, It is obvious that you "keep coming back like a petulant child" as well. After all, you kept posting insults and spewing hate, didn't you, butthurt loser? What a hypocrite dorkwad parasite liberal.

Where's the petulant loser HR douche chevroid type who is trolling this thread and thinks he knows everything about severance except he's wrong? Did he take his mommie's PC and run off? Too bad. Oh, and yes, an anonymous threat against an anonymous person by an anonymous loser will put you in an imaginary anonymous jail run by an anonymous warden. It's the equivalent of playing an online computer game, to whomever made that stupid remark, not that I would condone online cowardice, which is what acting tough behind the safety of a Keyboard is. But do get a clue. Thanks for reading.

I don't know who you guys are but whoever poster @HjpPKg5-8fqb is about the severance is a jackass HR troll and deserves to have his skull crushed. If I were able to see the little spineless coward face to face I would personally do it myself. It is the typical rank and file BS that a coward HR troll would post and none of it is true. And I don't appreciate the gay slurs. I would watch my back if I were you too.

@HjpPKg5-9noq, What did you say, petulant loser? Are you the same gay poster from that other thread? You are using the same phrases. I study linguistics and I can tell that it is you. You have been trolling this site, spouting hatred because you are a disgruntled laid off piece of deadwood. I feel so bad for you. but this site is full of losers worse off than you. Go cry yourself to sleep. Maybe that will help.

Quit your complaining, @9cxr. You keep coming back again and again like a petulant child. Say something constructive and participate in the topic. The topic is about the Severance Check.

I haven't received my severance check and it's been over 3 weeks. Automatically mailed your A$$. Some of these dipchits posting here are obviously HR/chevron fanboys who think that everything is all hunky dory and runs like clockwork with all these people getting laid off.

@HjpPKg5-8wlk, You seem like the typical whiner who has nothing to post but cry-babying and insults. And I can see from your responses to the other posters/trolls on this thread, if if have it right, that you are one of those fools who is under the delusion that every other poster who can tell that you are a jerk are all the same poster. Get a life and a clue, troll.

Don't attempt the double reverse psychology analogy on me. That won't work. My comments were directed right at you. Anonymous maybe, but at you and no one else.

Wow @-8uba, That's depressing. You know what they say about posters who pretend to psychoanalyze other anonymous posters, many using hateful comments, don't you? They are in fact giving out details about their own pathetic life, like a patient on a psychiatrist's couch, spilling their guts, talking about their problems. Just Wow.

Things will turn up for you fella. Keep looking for a job, a purpose, and a companion, which you have let us all know that you desperately need, you may find one before you think.

Good luck and God Bless.

We see that low mentality people like @8vnp must pause for 14 minutes and follow up with another post (@8gei). Low mental power and no job, and masturbating 5 times a day. Welcome to the rest of your miserable life. You know who you are, sad sack.

Actually, guys, working or not working for Chevron is not a requirement for posting on this site or any other page on the thelayoff.com. You can work for Chevron, or not, have a relative who works here or not), be porking a Jewish girl who works here, be getting hand-jobs from a pervert like the "Cliff notes down your throat" guy using his mommies PC below, or just be an Indonesian national using a public PC in Bali somewhere with nothing to do. Got that? Try to stick to "Severance" topics please. Thanks.

You are a loser with "no life, no woman, no job, and no prospects". You have no cliffnotes, no college degree and no common sense for you are a functional illiterate. Please put mommies PC away and go back to your room.

@HjpPKg5-8aim, Not out of a job or even close, asswipe, my company isn't primarily O&G based like yours - far from it. Something tells me that you are a butthurt loser piece of deadwood on the chopping block, though. Tread lightly, and shake the attitude, douche-bag. Maybe that will get you a couple more weeks of pay.

The severance (waiver agreement package) will automatically be mailed to each laid off employee via FedEx within a week after your last official day on the payroll. That is the last day when the 60-day WARN period expires. You will have 60 days to review and/or seek legal advise about the waiver agreement. The way I understand it, Chevron will not be able to provide you with subsidized COBRA medical through ADP COBRA Services, their 3rd party handlers, until you sign and send back your severance / waiver agreement papers. Be advised that Chevron will not do anything with the severance papers for another 10-days (revocation period). After the revocation period ends, the severance papers will take another 5 days to process. ADP will be informed and they will then mail you the COBRA papers to complete and mail back to them (with 1 month payment in advance). So, it's important not to delay getting your severance papers signed and mailed back quickly. Your severance check will be cut and placed in the US Mail on either the 7th or 22nd (normal payroll period). If one period is missed because your papers didn't make the payroll processing cutoff date, you'll get your check on the next payroll date. It takes 2-3 more days for the mail to hit your mailbox. The IRS requires that 25% Federal taxes be withheld. Social Security taxes are also taken out (up to the maximum annual limit of $118,500 income). Medicare taxes are also deducted.

@1lic, thanks for that interesting point. I didn't know that about the recent Supreme Court ruling on severance pay being subject to SS taxes. This frigging country will never stop going after the taxpayer for more and more of everything they have.

@ayd - You are correct that Social Security taxes are withheld, but actually it wasn't decided that severance is subject to Social Security until March 2014 when the Supreme Court ruled that it was, agreeing with an appeals court that had overruled a lower court. The reason is that Social Security taxes are only applied only on wages, not all income, so the question was whether severance is actually a form of wages, since you're not actually rendering services for the money. http://www.forbes.com/sites/robertwood/2014/03/25/supreme-court-rules-severance-pay-is-taxable-wages

Although Social Security taxes can be withheld from your severance check, the maximum taxable annual income for 2016 is $118,500. There are no additional social security taxes withheld once you reach this income level.

IRS rule requires 25% Federal Tax withholding, regardless of the amount, on all severance and bonus payments. Yes, social security tax is also withheld. After all, it is considered income. No State income taxes withheld in Texas, but are taken out in Louisiana, California, and any state that taxes income.
