We had over a dozen marketing guys, engineering directors & VPs go to Google IO this year.
Honestly, its great to see that our budgets still allow us to participate in industry conferences but IO is not a marketing meetup like CES or MWC and none of these guys have written any code in last 5 years nor will they do for rest of their lives -- so why do these "leaders" feel privileged enough to nominate themselves to go to a "developer conference" and not give a chance to the few remaining real hands-on engineers at junior titles in our organization.
The lack of accountability just sucks! The only accountability here is for meeting release milestones and CS targets even if we trample over our engineer's personal time to meet it.
Is there any sense of compassion & righteousness left in any of the senior leads?
