Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

EOI in Finance?

I have been told by people that I trust that our new leader actively used EOI submitals against his prior organization last September. Young employees were viewed as disloyal and their performance ratings negatively impacted and old employees were thought to be retiring anyway and kept around. As a Finance employee EOI opens up opportunities externally and severance would be nice. Should I put my name in for EOI and hope they are serious this time or should I start making mistakes, work less hours, and wait to be layed off like the employees in April last year?

Oh @2wrc , you special snowflake you. Your mom is going to be disappointed hearing about your language. Or, do you speak like that in front her, too?

And taking the time to get it right (no typo's) is inefficient? What other aspects of your work get the same treatment? Wait, everyone should accept your communications and other work like that 'cause, well, you're special. I mean, you got all those participation trophies to prove it, right?

@2oac yea because you're so selfless you self righteous cunt. The very fact you took 2 lines to comment on my spelling on an online internet forum speaks volumes and shows you don't get it, and never will. There's a thing called typo, everyone knows how to use a dictionary/spell check, are you retarded? Who's going to waste time re-reading a post on an online forum? But I can see someone like you opening up Microsoft Word, typing your post, spell checking and service desk to edit it before posting your message. Be more inefficient why don't you. I've seen old f---s like yourself clicking and reclicking greyed-out buttons on SAP and being completely bewildered as to why the computer isn't responding to their commands. Can't help but laugh. But no, you're smart and selfless. Enjoy your pink slip!

Hey there 1eyi...

There was truly no need to start your post with "I am young." We can tell by your appalling inability to spell. Maybe I'm old in your eyes, but my generation invented things like spell check. Feel free to use it. No charge. And as someone who hires talented employees, your "career path" will catch up you eventually. Yes, of course, there's no such thing as loyalty from a company anymore and we all have to take care of ourselves, but you need to learn to stop short of being a selfish little d-bag. Just sayin'.

Put your name in for EOI. If you are old it will be accepted. As you know, consistency is policy and based on what happened in September with this EVP the company has quietly settled three age descrimination lawsuits (for twice what severance would have cost). If you are young put in for EOI and if you are not chosen become a poor performer. Sooner or later you will get severance. I know it's crazy but this is the company we work for.

What difference does it make? If you check the box you get a severance if you get laid of you get a severance. Either way you win. There is no such thing as loyalty in the workforce anymore. The only loyalty you should have is to yourself and your family.

I am young and I see every company as my piggy bank. I will add value where I can but I expect nothing from them in terms of long term employment. I am actively networking and always seeking the next better job that will pay more and develop my skills. Specilization is for unadaptable losers who can't keep up with this rapidly changing world. Pretty soon I will have enough skills in my armory to apply in most sectors. Anyone who pledges loyalty to a company is clueless and a dinosaur. In fact, I was taught by various teachers in high school to do the exact opposite of that. Times have changed. Adapt or get butthurt like most old guys on this forum. It's almost as if they're appaled and sulking in disbelief that a company they pledged their loyalty to turned their back on them. The only pledge of loyalty you should have is toward voting Trump.

Just because you were layed off doesn't mean you made mistakes.

Trus, COP does not have the word loyalty or reward for hard work in their dictionary. It is about cliques. Belong to one and anything you do is acceptable.

Who cares about beinf viewed as disloyal - does the company offer you guaranteed employment until retirement? If the answer is no - you don't owe them any loyalty. If the answer is yes, I'm jealous
