Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Selection Process

Has anyone figured out how the selection process for the layoffs works? There didn't seem to be any defined criteria during the last two go rounds. Just curious.

I'm sorry, how did this post degenerate into victim blaming? (If you don't know what it is, look it up and try to stop being a s--ist chauvinistic pig). Great. Thanks!

So that makes it okay for your boss to sexually harass you? See, that's the kind of thinking that makes the values at COP s---. I bet you wish all the women would stare at your junk. Just so you know...We do to make fun of how small it is! And by the way...you can quit touching it to make sure it's still there. What is that with you guys? It won't all of a sudden fall off!

Most often the ones complaining about someone staring at their boobs are the ones that have their boobs most exposed! Kind of makes you wonder doesn't it?

Process and COP are diametrically opposed philosophies. All of the process thinkers either exited with P66 or were laid off. The existing COP cannot even sustain an erection without their posse in the room. Bunch of impotent coyotes!

I have seen a lot of incompetent "winners" and highly competent "losers". Many times it's a matter of what clique you are in. Ranking is highly subjective. Horrible process!

@1agl: and who are you to judge the 'winners' from 'losers'. Based on your commentary I'd place you in the 2nd class there.

Just another example of the rotten COP culture, as your 'work' is likely of about as much value as your commentary

God please grant my EOI wish

HR takes this opportunity to clean house of anyone who filed a sexual harrassment or ethics claim. All they have to say is 'your position is no longer needed'. Retaliation at its best. Happened to me because I was sick of my boss staring at my boobs and standing with his crotch in my face at my desk. Of course, he was protected. And this was not his first offense either.

Fact of life - the ranking of individual human performance in a business environment is not 100% objective and will never be. That being said, much effort and time is expended in evaluating performance results, skills and ability to contribute going forward. The winners are still contributing and the losers are whining to each other. Just take a walk around the office and you will see it.

1kby - you are almost spot on. I volunteered last go -round and thankfully got out. My former boss was demoted in favor of a good ol' boy with executive golf buddies. He has a list of HR violations going back 15 years or more. My old boss stood up for us and paid the price career-wise. Genuine caring person. I might add that my old boss was the best supervisor I ever had and that's over a 30 year career. Not just my opinion either. But SHE doesn't play golf, isn't the right gender or religion. I sincerely hope SHE kept the recordings and notes because they did her dirty.

Individuals involved with human resources issues such as EEOC complaints were included in the first round of layoffs. EOI and file an ethics complaint are you will be walking out the door.

I saw really strong outstanding performers get let go last round in Canada and people who brown-nose and under perform still around. I am shocked how Conoco is selecting the people to be laid off. Managers and VPs are basing it on who is s---ing up and not basing it on work ethic and performance. This is sad to see. Good luck to all...the next couple of weeks will be a tough one for all of us! Keep your head up high and remember, this is only a job!

They keep the s--- up's and low achievers to make the high ups look better!!!! I saw some truly talented people let go so it's hard to predict.

I agree with qhi.....

If you kiss someone's butt, play the game, go drinking with ( or do other things, wink wink), you might get to stay.

Many good people are still with the company who deserve a good job, but this message board outlines that there are deep rooted problems which make it difficult to feel any pride to work for such a company. It is almost embarrassing that I used to work there.....I am so lucky to be out of that place!

Good luck to anyone who stays, and who really wants to stay. Life is too short for what you all are dealing with!

Is simple, it depends on how good friend are you of your supervisor. COP has too many people and many layers of supervisors and managers for the production that the company has and without downstream is even more difficult. Good luck.

Rumor has it there have been enough EOIs to make up the vast majority of the 1,000 people the company plans to sever. Good job EOIers!
