Bottom line,
Wireline (including Fiber) make up about 7% of profits.
Wireless about 94% of profits.
Yes, cables/Fiber route traffic between cell towers (so, the reality is different then what is being shown).
But, Last mile copper is dead.
Last mile Fiber, remains to be seen.
Wireline is profitable, wireless is more profitable, but hitting some bit issues.

The point of all this is Verizon sold its wireline assets in the largest revenue generating state in the country. How was that a good move? It wasn't. But when you have too much debt and need cash to buy more worthless crap, you start selling assets. Verizon sold wireline assets, along with almost its ENTIRE wireless network to American Tower and leased it back. Sounds like trouble to me.
Shamwow and McDumbass are running Verizon into the ground. They believe they can compete head to head with Google and Facebook. So they are sacrificing their core business to do so. In the end, Verizon will never be like those companies. Leadership just doesn't understand the tech culture and you can't force something to happen in an oppressive environment like Verizon.

Take a look at aerial images of Cities like New York, Boston, Washington, Philadelphia. Verizon has every inch of those Cities covered with it's wired network. You can believe this or not, but it's the wireline that will keep Verizon earning. Every phone that rings in an office and data transmission in NYC, Manhattan, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC and all Cities in between, Pay Verizon in some way either customer or not. They ride on Verizon's infrastructure. Not just wires, but Poles, underground, Manholes, other conduits. They pay Verizon fees to use those paths.
All the wireless carries, T-Moble, Sprint, and so on Pay Verizon because they do not have a wired network to operate on independently, they need Verizon.s infrastructure.

The telecommunications network in the United States is made up of millions of miles of copper, and fiber, These links are tied together at central offices, mobile telephone switching offices, head ends, cell towers, Your cell phone is only wireless to the nearest cell tower, and down it goes into the wires. That wired network has virtually zero competition, you could say it's a monopoly. Those cities are massive with Millions of people using phones, and internet everyday. Just imagine the phones ringing and people on their devices in those cities. Verizon is getting paid one way or the other, either customer or not. and Verizon has a lot of customers. The fiber cable, and Fios, are considered the wireline side of the business at Verizon. 1Krs stated the wireline will be gone by 2025. No doubt the copper cable is on it's way out, everyone knows that, but copper is not the only wire at Verizon. Fiber is a wire. The fiber wireline at Verizon is very healthy, and now has growth if you read the article.

Note the term "landline" is not being used in this conversation since obviously fiber and copper are both landlines. Does Verizon still attach the word Telephone onto it name or any any way openly and publicly refer to itself as a wireline company? No.
The company will begin aggressively to tell customer they have a choice of a wireless connection, a fiber connection (if available) or they can go to another provider. Wireline for what it was and presently is, is dead. The company is using its carcass to fuel other growths and to position for a fiber and wireless world.
In the near future none of us will hear Verzion or ATT refer to their 'wireline' business. Copper is dead.

It attaches to at both ends, creating a path of transmission of data signals. it's advantageous for long-distance speed uninterrupted and interfered communications, because light propagates through the fiber with little attenuation.
You say Fiber wire it's being replaced, but at the moment Verizon is investing $30 million dollars into Massachusetts as we speak.
Google is investing Billions of dollars in building a Fiber wire network in many States as we speak.
Apple is investing 2 Billion dollars with Cumulus Networks in building a Fiber Wire network in Ireland and Denmark as we speak.

Wireline is dead. The FCC has OK'd the telco's exiting wireline completely by 2025 but there are some requirements for the telco's along the way. Wireline is dead but will be replaced by fiber with the wireline term eventually being changed to reflect fiber and data services to the home. The money at present is in the business customers and TLS and fiber are kings. Residental customers in rural areas will get the wireless can attached to the side of their house or they will no longer be a dial tone customer of Verizon. Metropolitan areas that will support it will get fiber. Probably will not be any more of these contracts to add fiber to an entire city meaning only greenfields will get fiber.
But no doubt about it .... wireline is dying and will be dead by 2025.
The problem with the wireless side, is that the competition has matched Verizon, and even surpassed them in network speed, and reliability. Now the one thing the wireless competition clearly beats Verizon with, is the pricing, for now. Also, the wireless market has become saturated, with little room for real growth.
This article's research provides a path to growth in the home network for residential customers. This is where Verizon literally has the best network, and no competitor has plans to match it. Real growth.
