It has been said several times that "this is the new way of doing business going forward, it is our new reality". Beatings will continue until morale improves.

I've worked in security / consulting for 14 years and Cisco (the services) organization is very poorly run.

All they seem to be able to do is change their name every 6 months and keep everyone confused.

Bryan Palma is pulling the wool over Chuck Robbins eyes. No one except his direct reports believe this guy knows what he's doing. No leadership, no strategy and poor day to day management (at least at my level). Emperor has no clothes.

Just FYI... Security and Cloud had severe layoffs too.

This round was all about age and location.

i have a strange feeling that MF/M&A types have convinced the C-suite that IOT/Cloud/Security will bring in $40 billion and all else is legacy and should be EOLed in phases / hived off and their people eased out.

a logical fallout of that would be a argument that cisco needs splitting into a few new "legacy" cos (routing , switching, datacenter) and a "next" gen co with the great new hopes...also "unlocks hidden value" in the stock will be the spiel.

or they might buy someone like twitter, dropbox or snapchat to be cool and next-gen cloud based.

It wouldn't be a shock if Cisco jettisoned even more workers in during the next year or two, given what has happened at other big tech companies that have gone through several waves of layoffs.

Cisco has previously laid off 6,000 workers in 2014, 4,000 were cut in 2013.
