As a vzw retail employees that was just released (non union) , I wish I had a union to back me up. All the bs I went through the past years at vzw . Being locked out of the inventory room due to a dictator director. Being questioned to death about each and every transaction and unable to present the customer a phone until I mentioned $100 ARD and or a tablet, did i mention im not even in sales but still was treated this way. Seeing good employees let go over stupid reasons.
Having no pension, denied a pay raise one year cause I spoke up about a bad director (who was removed 6 months later). No medical benifits for retirement. No wait to stand up and voice opinion .

Stop blaming unions and do your research. Unions are the reason we have 40 hour work weeks and laws to prevent child labor etc. And as the person above said they got a $1.2k sign on bonus cause govt/Obama had to step in and say NO vz your wrong and treat your employees like $#¡+
btw union jobs make more than non union jobs: ups , Fios, nypd , heck even a worker at Playstation theater makes more than I did at vzw .
Whoever buys them won't be dumb enough to force another strike. There are still loads of troubles needing to be fixed and VZ took a big business hit as evident from the latest 3rd quarter results.

Let's see, go on strike for 5 weeks, have 25 extra "vacation" days, lose a net of about 500$ total (because I have a local relief fund), pick up about 1200$ in odd jobs, and come out on the other end with an increase in pension and pay and another 3-4 years of Guarenteed employment, w no chance of a layoff.
Yeah, we union guys are real dopes.
But I didn't come here to gloat, I came here to read about non-union types being laid off right before Christmas.

Verizon is moving to the rat palace in India. They won't have any onshore workers or onshore business by 2019.
Verizon will be owned by somebody else by 2019 and they wont tolerate a strike. They may lockout all of them and hire former Comcast and ATT workers to replace them..becasue they already know the telecom business.
