Cisco IDs

Why are for some new hires Cisco IDs around 300.000 and for others around 800.000?

I've come back to Cisco twice and each time with a different vendor and I have the original employee ID I received originally in 2000

I assume you can't be refered and be part of an acquisition.

@2tjz - I don't understand what you mean by a referral. I, and many others have, joined Cisco as a contractor/vendor/temp through a consulting company. I've only known one person who had a 800.000 employee id and they were classified as a temp.

I would agree that an acquisition is not a referral.

Details?

I came here upon a referal and have a 300.000 ID.

I know someone how told me he came upon a referal having a 800.000 ID.

I assume you can't be refered and be part of an aquisition.

Interesting. I have an employee who servers as a counter-example, though.

Maybe they were acquisitions?

@clh - I don't think they're re-using employee ID numbers.

@mvb - Normally, when you get rehired after leaving Cisco and being re-hired, you get the same user ID and employee number. I got the same employee id and employee number after a 20 month absence. A co-worker who started out working in the GTRC as a red-badge left for 6+ months to come back with a different vendor for a non-help desk role where he was converted to an employee. He got a new employee id, but his employee number was the same as his original one.

I don't know where the 800K numbers came from. Maybe they were acquisitions? They were issuing badge numbers in the mid 200K range when I came back and got my lower 100K employee number back.

When you get rehired after leaving the company do you get a new employee number or the old number?

They started re using ID numbers from ex Blue badges and Red badges, i.e. employees who were no longer there.
