Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Why does Hurd keep doing Class Of hirings???

I don't get it. He did it at HP and now at Oracle. He hires kids who know nothing about IT, spends millions to train them, pays them in peanuts, and lays off talented workers who are older.

They wonder why our revenue is declining!

There is no fix, oracle is the new hp, why do you think EL brought in MH?

They enjoys cheap labor. College Hires are cheap. They repeatedly call customers to the point of pissing them off. They don't know what they are selling, but they are 2-3x cheaper than a sales rep. If they could automate everything with robots, they would.

It's just the way the leadership thinks. Manage everything by a spreadsheet in order to meet Wall Street targets. That's all this is about. It's not about long term thinking or doing what is in the best interest of the company or its customers.

Oracle will turn into HP and it will be very hard to fix.

This guy was put in office to simply slice and dice...Like IBM, sh--ty stock projections so lets go after our competent workforce and replace with cheap labor (tax break states/provinces or offshore destinations).

This company along with all other IT big box shops are in decline. IT's become a commodity, gimme your best price.

This practice dates back to MH’s days at NCR. He did the same thing there. The result was 75% attrition in the first five years and 95% retention thereafter. Unfortunately, the 25% that stayed were the most risk adverse and least likely to show initiative or innovative thinking. It's a machine for producing a toxic, subservient, culture of perpetual indoctrination. Hiring, folks with experience brings new ideas. MH wants obedience, not new ideas. No matter what his marketing hype claims.

Remember the Marriott they bought near hq? It's because of the turnover of these trainees, hiring and training people nonstop because they don't stay for very long. It goes round and round.

Its about decreasing liabilities insurance, 401 , higher salaries and replacing them with cheaper , younger labor and trust that they will eventually learn on the job. Its the age old trick in the books to have continues outward churn of higher liabilities

I was recruiting in So Cal this fall, and yes, our overall reputation is going down - the kids know what's going on - we still get a ton of interest but I'd say we get B and C kind of candidates

The skill set of the Class of's is declining. The word has gotten around the universities, and Oracle is not viewed as the brass ring to be grasped. As a result, our recruiters have to settle for second stringers, and sometimes thirds to fill our quota.

If you are not satisfied with the class of you already have, wait until this next class hits the floor.

If they leave they aren't vested so nonpayment to 401k. It's dollars and cents .

Just look at how this worked out at HP, not! The turnover of these kids 50+% most don't even last 6 months. Total insanity

@KCBMH0q-cwd

thanks for the insight. i agree with your sentiments on the industry

the only ironic thing is that these kids end up costing the company more (salaries, training, hotels, flights, bonuses) compared to the salary of an existing employee, and then they either dont ever learn the skills to actually close deals with customers, or they just quit in less than a year to work for a start up

MH and LE are smart guys- how can they not see this as a huge loss??

MH and LE don't care about the long term viability on the company. It's short term profits and they have to reduce costs to show investors each quarter. It means more work sent off shore, project cuts and replacing higher paid workers with cheaper labor.

This company along with all other IT legacy companies are in decline. At some point they might merge but MH's known for ripping companies a part and laying off massive amounts of employees.
