Which poor performance? Apple is not seeing any performance problems in the Intel modem compared to the Qualcomm modem. If they did, they could have switched to Qualcomm already. Nothing keeping them from doing that. They could flip that switch at any time. But they haven't.
Apple is quite capable to run their own tests. They don't need to rely on some Qualcomm-paid blogger to draw up some nonsensical tests to prove that one modem is better than the other.
Intel was willing to lose billions for 40 million tablets only to fold 🤗. That same leadership is hellbent to have modem so what's a few more billion lost for that from the clown. What do you think the likely hood of longterm success here after losing another couple billion?

You can't believe the pricing intel gave Apple. The larger issue is the terrible reputation intel has, Qualcomm and every other company is having a good laugh. Buddies I have at several companies had good jokes, glad I am not making pitches or negotiation pricing on the next modem.
I am sure in every boardroom and manager meeting lots of jokes about intel design skills in communications.
