Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron Layoffs 2017

This is going to be a short note, a very short one - I heard there will be layoffs in our corporate office in San Ramon.

4fup, what other Houston office is to close?

Hold on folks. 2015-16 was operating units, now is time for central staff to fall into line with smaller orgs. Word on the street confirms flattening of our organizations. Upstream will go from four to three OpCos. CTNAU has always operated like a large (somewhat stupid) SBU and is shrinking offshore, so it will combine with others into an OpCo. Covington closes. Bellaire closes. One other Houston office closes. Upstream service orgs and research will get slashed - ETC, UC, PRC, Tech Ventures, BD, according to forecast services in BP17. HQ service depts will reduce: HR, Legal, Finance, IT, etc. The final pieces of the puzzle fall into place, prices bottom out and we are ready to drill shale, liquify gas and flow cash like maniacs.

Correct, 4afq. The cuts that will take place in 2017 will be from upper management, not from further layoffs of rank and file personnel. Chevron will be focusing on flattening the org charts of all Business Units and Opcos. I relish a late Christmas gift in the form of my department's manager getting the axe. Our group lost two excellent and productive employees because this terd did not do his job and defend them on their strong merits.

Patience with the cost/value proposition of Upstream Capabilility also nearly finished. Lots of PSG 26-29 folk who have contributed nothing to the bottom line being discussed. D&C Empire, RM template commanders - will be a different landscape 2H17.

The Chevron execs will not layoff any HR or PGPA employees. The HR dept is the buffer they need to distance themselves from direct contact with the employee. By the same token, they need the PGPA to run interference for them when it comes to bending or distorting the truth to the public and government.

And don't forget HR and PGPA. Gotta load up on those worthless twits too.

@dkw They also need another 15% HES people because the San Ramon office is such a dangerous work environment.

1guk, ETC has some bright and useful talent. It's also a place where the company likes to pigeon hole many employees with highly specialized experience who are in between real dedicated jobs in operating companies. They keep them there hoping to place them on special projects or to transfer them into Opcos who will pay their salaries. If ETC underemploys their talents and there's a need to cut costs further, ultimately these ETC folks will get laid off too.

Why does ETC have Such a huge number of folks in Strategic Planning and Organizational Capability? What actual value do they provide to the enterprise?

It's way past time to do this. Not sure what took some long. Needs to be significant cuts for sure. Way too much overhead. Start at the top and work down.

There are some high performing individuals in ETC. But I tend to agree, as a whole, the organization is ineffective.

They need to shut down ETC, they are all over paid by business group depending what project they are on. hotels, travel, etc. that's why they call them etc.

ETC will be laying off in early 2017. It will be quick. No long drawn out selection process. This is not something "I heard". If you are either an expensive employee or an underperformer you should be worried.

Just looking at how CVX stock is going and maintaining a steady value around $108 to $110 at currrnt oil prices makes me think Chevron is in good enough shape to keep the personnel it now has, maybe hire a few more in key areas.
