Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

The old Cisco is gone. Sorry to break the news to you.

Take a look at the images and stories on the CEC home page and on Glassdoor and have that paint a picture for you. The marketing tells the story, in every human-interest story and in every picture:

  • A gaggle of smiling 20 something's in t-shirts doing a group limbo or a massive selfie at work

  • All of them a mix of multi racial, good looking kids with an equal number of men and women

  • Random story about how some salesguy saved up all his PTO so he could climb some peak in Nepal and put a Cisco flag on it

  • A catchy story about how we are going to be the TESLA of IoT, Smart Cities, (insert shiny object here) and rule the world

It is all rather transparent, somewhat desperate and sad. Maybe I'm just bitter about where we are now and I'm seeing stuff that doesn't exist. Maybe not.

Originaly posted on @Kv3rmi3-ttl . So good, I thought it deserved a new thread.

@KwwN4Sv-aihl You muppet. Still wearing rose tinted NDS glasses? Oh the good old days of how it used to be? Our top man sold us out and you still can't come to terms with it. I for one got a better gig inside Cisco and am loving it . Screw you moanbag.

Let's be clear.NDS was finished with all its custom deals and no ability to create repeatable deals. I was there and know it inside out. Cisco saved us but all of our people such as those in the U.K. We're stuck in an old world and unable to move on. Bunch of laggards.

@KwwN4Sv-ukz you sound like a real bitter cunt - something happened eh? Didn't pass the interview for NDS or something? Before NDS was acquired it was a company worth about 5 Billion, making handsome profits and growing year on year by at least 15-20%. They were number 1 in Pay TV security, User Interfaces, OTT, and many other TV-Technologies. Cisco have spent the last 4 years f---ing it up just like they did at Scientific Atlanta - they are almost finished the f---ing up fuprocess. Come middle of next year there will be nothing left so all of your "moaners" will have gone on to better things.

LRed a couple of years ago. UK based, not NDS and not Staines, but not a million miles away both in location and org structure.

I regret that I took the job there in the first place - I was kicked out inside of two years with the company. Now I'm somewhere else (a company that wanted me when I'd already had the Cisco job offer) and could not be happier. It's nice to work at a firm that doesn't leave you worrying about your income for 3 out of 12 months a year, and one where problems get actual solutions, not "let's just fire some more people". Honestly, if I wasn't forced out I saw myself resigning. At least I got a payoff for sitting tight.

I agree with the Stockholm syndrome comment too. I have a friend who is in the same BU I was, though he's had more "luck" in not being made redundant. I can't work out why he hasn't left yet.

It's all a marketing tool to try to attract new grads and other young talent. If they showed the real Cisco nobody would apply.

I am ex NDS and just LRed Oct, Staines, I can confirm it went downhill very rapidly,

Yvette came in and did the hatchet job both customers and staff then left after fudging the double digit growth, looks like the same thing happening in the cloud, Some real good NDS people went in OCT. Glad I am out of it. Cisco is not the company it was its reputation has gone. Do some good and you tell one person do something bad and ten people get told that's Cisco's reputation now.

Was LRed post NDS acquisition, didn't know there was an old Cisco. Even pre-onboarding things went downhill, then things got progressively worse. I'm in occasional contact with ex-coworkers, and although they aren't happy, they seem to have a form of Stockholm syndrome. Way better to be on the outside.
