Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

The long arm of the layoff board censor

We had a great thread going with "Exxon ceo - secretary of state!" And lo and behold, it is gone! All the 200+ posts. What a brutal censorship! A layoff board does not have to be talking about layoff all the time. The current and future political scenarios, global developments affecting the industry.. They are all important. Very petty and narrow minded censorship!

This is really about culture wars, it's not about objective analysis and reason. Otherwise Trump's team would argue based on facts and logic, rather than having to create 'alternate facts' which are unsupported by credible sources. The Constitutional Rights Foundation states the following: "A fascist state uses national glory and the fear of outside threats to build a new society based on the 'common will' of the people. Fascists believe in action and looking at national myths for guidance rather than relying on the 'barren intellectualism' of science and reason." It's hard to argue that Trump is not a fascist by this definition.

Excellent. It is high time we have someone with the integrity and honesty to call all the liberal mainstream media to the carpet whenever they lie, twist the truth or fail to mention anything that rubs against their leftist views. As far as I'm concerned, ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, MSNBC and CNN are blocked news channels on my television.

Propaganda barbie told two commutators Sunday morning ("meet the press" and "face the nation") that if they did not stop asking questions about Trump's fixation on relative crowd size she was going to have to "reevaluate her relationship with them". The reference was clear, you carry our message or we will cut your access. This not the first time either, Trump blocked access of specific reporters from the ny times and washington post for writing op eds he did not like.

@vije, that is correct. Trump, Fox News and the rest of right wing media will control the narrative and whatever doesn't agree with their agenda will be deemed fake news. This is classic use of tactics by government on the road to tyranny.

Very funny, ueww. If any of that mattered, it would have been resolved in the election. From all accounts, Trump won the Presidency. Get used to it or simmer in bitterness for 4 years until the next election.

@svkd, please enlighten us on how Obama has/had a closer relationship to Putin than does Trump. Why do you think Trump rejected the conclusions of the intelligence agencies that Putin interfered in the election to help Trump win? Does it seem strange that he trusts Putin more than the CIA/DNI? Does it seem strange that he was openly asking Russia to release her emails to the media? (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/video/2016/jul/27/donald-trump-russia-dnc-email-hack-video)

-stjq , you say "I am not a Clinton fan" yet you obviously voted for the criminal. And, convicted or not, destroying the E-mails is technically a federal crime as even my democrat coworkers agree. The overblown false narrative based "comments" that Trump may have made about dead Hussein or Putin are dwarfed by the actual relationships that BO had with Ayers, Wright, Putin and others, and the likes of you either did not mind nor care. Please do try to catch up and/or not be so blatantly hypocritical or selectively ignorant.

A poster wrote :"But making fun of Trump and his supporters is so much fun and so easy. It practically writes itself." Unlike the pathetic, hapless manifestation of liberal clowns, freaks, and career cry-babies with their heads exploding that is playing all over the internet and every broadcast news station daily. You not only don't have to write it, you can't escape it!!!! What a pathetic, miserable bunch. They need to make up lies to even be relevant anymore because none of their crying and whining about the government providing for them makes any more sense or is even interesting. You have MLK busts getting removed, women's and everyone else's rights getting taken away, all sorts of minorities getting abused and forsaken, you name it, the best fiction Hollywood liberals have ever produced!

@L370Drz-rlog , That's true, but the Hillary voters knew what they were voting for. An Anti-American criminal, pathological liar and career politician in the pockets of many combatant nations and entities. It's a shame that she didn't win to advance Obama's legacy of divisiveness, economic failure, and destructive social engineering.

Since Trump didn't present any details on his health plan (he basically just said it would be terrific, cover everybody and be much lower costs than ACA), it's fair to say people didn't know what they were voting for. Based on the fact that he has already gone back on several important promises (such as releasing tax returns) and he recently settled the Trump University fraud case for $25 million, I have very little hope we'll end up with something terrific. The best option would be a single-payer system with universal coverage (like all other OECD countries have), but that won't happen.

There is a clear line between a sell and a con, and the mark never sees the difference until after the fact. In two years it will be clear what America bought... one way of the other. One of the signs of a con is never to see the goods on the table!

@rvor, I think you are right, but I have the optimism in seeing many if not all of the promises he made will come to pass. Maybe not to your or my liking, but to the best extent possible, to most Americans liking. I for one hope his administration takes a big departure from the usual Republican and Democrat platforms.

Trump promised a lot of things to his supporters and he will not be able to meet those promises without significant departure from the Republican platform on Obamacare replacement. He hasn't even presented a plan, but supposedly he will once HHS Secretary is confirmed.

@rwal, Anyone with knowledge knows it won't be easy to repeal and replace Obamacare, but it's not an impossible task. No mater what Trump said on the campaign trail about it being "easy". In sales, just like in politics, if you intend to win, you must sell it at each stage if the way. Don't misconstrue "selling it" as synonymous with telling a lie. Trump has a tall order to fill. I'm glad to see he is tackling the more difficult and ambitious plans first. The sooner he demonstrates he is successful, the better it would be for all the other agenda items to follow.

Repeal and replacement of Obamacare will be very difficult because Trump has made promises such as universal coverage, no changes to Medicare/Medicaid coverage and lower costs that are at odds with Republican replacement plans. Trump has made it sound easy, but it will be very challenging. Ye of little faith need not reply to @rgyw. I too think it's possible to deal with these two issues within 100 days and come out with a "fix" that benefits America. Trump is a can-do man. Just getting to the Presidency was a feat many (on the left primarily) thought was impossible.

I'll say the last two posters are pessimists, whereas I have the strong optimism these two enormous initiatives (Healthcare and Immigration) will bear fruit and thereby be the steam Trump will have to hold for 8 years. I'll bet 10-1 on those odds.

The first weekend was not promising. After repeated promises to release Trump's taxes, they now say they won't be released. The argument of "alternative facts" and trying to discredit the media over the size of the inauguration crowds is a bizarre way to build credibility when his approval rating is 40%.

History shows that Trump has about 100 days to put an agenda on the table and then about a year to push the top bits through the pipe. If he has momentum after that he will be able to continue to move forward, but if not he will grind the government to a holt waiting the mid-terms. He has put two very difficult problems front and center that are now must address items (health care and immigration). I have seen little evidence that he has the ability to build a broad consensus needed to address either, and the more time he spends getting distracted in tweeter wars with the press on alt facts the less likely anything will happen but extended gridlock (for good, or bad, depending on your perspective).

These are the conflicts of interest that experts are concerned about: http://www.npr.org/2017/01/19/510574687/ethics-lawyers-call-trumps-business-conflicts-nakedly-unconstitutional

@oroi, it's not a question of net worth. It's a question of conflicts of interest. The Office of Government Ethics has determined that his efforts to avoid those conflicts through turning management of the Trump Organization over to his sons is inadequate. A blind trust is the standard practice. The disclosure forms he has provided are also inadequate for understanding the scope of his investments. Details are described here: https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2017/01/trump-fec-filings/513389/

From the article: "The paucity of such information, combined with Trump’s continual dissembling over his refusal to release his tax returns, has fueled speculation that they may contain information that could help explain some of his more unusual stances. In particular, some have suggested that Trump may be deep in debt to Russian oligarchs or the country’s state-owned bank, which could be part of the reason for his embrace of the country’s autocratic leader Vladimir Putin."

Trump will be in violation of the emoluments clause of the Constitution by having his new hotel in Washington profiting from foreign officials coming to do business with his administration. My view is that his alliance with Russia runs counter to American interests, and his rejection of the findings of U.S. intelligence agencies and refusal to release taxes suggests that he is hiding the extent of his relationships with Russian government and/or oligarchs. If he has nothing to hide then there should be no problem with transparency.

Meanwhile, I'm still waiting on all the Obummer promises that he didn't deliver. I hace a different doctor, I didnt' save $2500, In fact I'm paying much more than before), Guantanimo bay, Immigration policy updates. - Indeed I guess executive orders to not follow existing laws on immigration and to open the borders to terrorists, IS, in a way, a policy, albeit a horrible and destructive one, for Americans....

Chesea Manning is free to roam though, after jeopardizing the lives of thousands of citizens and military, with a slap on the risk. Good job anti-American loser pathetic excuse for a community organizer!! The worse legacy in presidential history speaks for itself.

nuiw & ozxh - First of all, get over it. The election is over and Donald Trump takes over things early tomorrow. Thank God. As for his promise to prosecute Hillary Clinton, just hold on and wait to see what happens. He backed off this promise because it is not a President's role to go after anyone he wants to. This is the role of the Attorney General and FBI. So cool your jets until things get rolling. I believe Hillary and the Clinton Foundation will be investigated. If she doesn't hi to jail, others will and Hillary will be so damaged, she will yield no political power afterward.

@ngwn, so what do you think of him not going after Hillary Clinton with his promise to prosecute her? What about releasing his tax returns, which he pledged to do multiple times? What about his pledge to drain the swamp and criticism for Clinton being beholden to Goldman Sachs, but he has put six people from Goldman Sachs to his staff. It seems to me he has gone back on his word quite a few times.

@naqb, I believe in keeping one's word, whether it's in real life or in politics. Trump promised a wall, and it's a wall he better deliver. I have for a long time believed a cheaper and more effective means of keeping illegals out us by way a a National ID card, one that every citizen and legal resident must possess. Put this federally mandated ID card in place and we essentially won't need a wall at all.
