Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

No Rif's or Eisp's! Thought for sure Verizon would go there as a cost saving measure since having a bad quarter. That's usually their MO.

Perhaps they have a new plan since they can see nothing that they are doing lately is working.

Long term FIOS video is probably a loser. But FIOS internet is a product people will want.

DSL is not FIOS. Not sure why articles purportedly about FIOS keep referencing DSL. numbers.

No rifs?? Lol. A few Regional directors just got the axe today. In network. Two were jerks and got what they should of gotten years ago.

Fios would have also been bigger had the company continued deployment. The product is in demand and is profitable. The upfront costs just take a bit longer to pay for itself than the higher ups would like.

I wouldn't say FiOS is doing anything spectacular. FiOS adds missed the mark as well:

During the quarter, Verizon added 68,000 new FiOS internet net customers and 21,000 new FiOS video customers, falling short of analyst expectations. Wall Street analysts expected Verizon to add 83,000 FiOS internet and 31,000 video subscribers.

Wall Street wanted 83,000 adds and it was missed. And that number is so tiny, FiOS alone can't keep this bloated telecom afloat.

@1zdp - Fios would be even bigger if they hadn't sold off customers to Frontier... 1.6 million FiOS internet customers and 1.2 million FiOS video customers were sold off in the deal last year.

@1nwx uh...FiOS missed target too. Only added 21,000 and Wall Street wanted 30,900.

Those numbers are tiny by the way and have little bearing on Verizon's performance.

This week is all about kickoffs. You know, those stupid events that waste millions of dollars where leadership lies and it basically becomes this big kool aide v team session.

Next week they'll get back to the business of quietly firing people and finding the next go90 to waste money on.

I wonder how many loyal employees can a company fire before all that bad karma catches up?

Hahaha. Fios isn't big enough on its own to save this sinking ship. But yeah, leadership is using this tiny segment as a distraction from the poor earnings:

let's correct that...bad year for wireless, great year for fios. fios came to the rescue as well all in wireline knew of what the company was trying to stop. dumb move in freezing the expansion. as for layoffs there were plenty, those that supported wireless. it is about to get worse for the lot of you.

The last EISP was only offered to a few people at certain locations. If they want/need associates to leave in order to reach a number they have in mind.....they need to offer it to more associates. There is plenty of time to do it this quarter.

Bad quarter? Try a bad year - 2016. And 2017 is not looking any better.

McClown is busy with his new XO shiny toy and is currently distracted. He'll get back to firing people soon enough...
