Yet another case of United trying to get their drunk pilots off the hook. Are all you United employees trolling this thread raging alcoholics or just your pilots?:

This is crazy, it's almost as crazy as that video that I just watched...

So, to recap here (David Dao vs United) we have the following elements of a quality plot - this is a Hollywood style plot:

  • a doctor

  • a viral video

  • poker

  • gambling at a six digit scale

  • controlled substances

  • legal action, fines

  • license suspension

  • nepotism

  • inappropriate s-xual (same s-x) behavior

  • s-x for controlled substance

United has a LONG history of pilot/employee misconduct. You'd have to be insane to buy a ticket on their flights:

Does that mean b/c this guy has a past (whoever has no sin, please throw the first stone) that what United did is okay now? Who cares about the guy's past. What united did was WRONG and it could happen to you, it could happen to me. Let's make sure United NEVER does this to anyone else.

There were two passengers who refused before Dao. Why didn't United force one of them to leave instead.

Police violence....how about doing what you're legally ordered to do and you won't get jerked out of your seat. How many times does need need to be told to leave the plane before he has to be physically removed?

Some of you act as if this guy played no part in this happening. He was asked by the flight crew to exit, he refused. He was asked by United supervisors to exit, he refused, he was ordered by the police to exit and he refused. Also..some of you seem to think that these were United security people. Airlines don't have private security at airports, these were either sworn Airport police or Chicago police.

He really doesn't have a legal argument, even though United will probably pay to make this go away. Remember.... you AGREE to this when you buy your ticket. You agree to abide by the Contract of Carriage which in part says....."If an insufficient number of volunteers come forward, the carrier may deny boarding to other passengers in accordance with its boarding priority rules.

The priority of all other confirmed passengers may be determined based on a passenger’s fare class, itinerary, status of frequent flyer program membership, and the time in which the passenger presents him/herself for check-in without advanced seat assignment."

If all true, it just means United F'd with the wrong person that fateful day. It took some one this troubled, odd and eccentric to stand up to the b---s---. What does this story stay about us, when most of us would have been weak sheeple and left the plane begrudgingly?

I sense a major lawsuit here, United is so screwed here regardless of what David Dao's past it is

Citing everipedia as an authoritative source is not wise either. Its user supported like Wikipedia so anyone can post anything.

There are several things you need to look at. Louisville is a terminating airport, which means you don't fly into Louisville to catch another plane to go somewhere else. You fly into Louisville because that's where you're going. If this person was actually the doctor from New Orleans, he would have flown directly from Chicago (with is a United hub) to New Orleans, not Louisville. He himself stated that he had to get home because he had patients to see the next day, so we can pretty much infer that his "patients" would have been in the Louisville area.

Also, Elizabethtown is pretty small (I used to work there) and I seriously doubt if they would have had two Dr David Dao's.

That being said, I don't think United handled this very well either. I hate the fact that airlines constantly oversell flights because they are scared to death that they might miss out on a dollar. I have a friend that works for the airlines and he constantly complains about how they have to beg people to accept a voucher to voluntarily remove themselves from the flight. What a lot of folks don't realize is that 99% of the time the airlines don't give you a check, they give you a voucher because they know that better than half of those people will never redeem the voucher. There again, its all about making that extra buck.

People also don't realize that they give away a lot of their rights when that purchase a ticket to fly. The government give airlines and flight crews a massive amount of authority. Flight crews are basically cop, judge and jury once you step onto that plane. Although this is a PR nightmare for United, legally they did nothing wrong because like I said above, when you buy a ticket, you give away a lot of your rights.

Simple solution would be for the government to outlaw overselling flights. This would probably still happen from time to time, but it would be rarer than it is now.

There is current speculation that David Thanh Duc Dao has a criminal record under the name 'David Anh Duy Dao.'[15] However, this has largely been disproven and is thought to be malicious move by United Airlines' legal team in a bid to smear Dao's name.

Get your facts straight before posting. The horrible Doctor you're talking about is not the same Doctor as this one on United Airlines flight.

No, check THIS out:

http://www.state.ky.us/agencies/kbml/finalorders/22439.pdf

To summarize:

The dude from the flight IS a doctor...who was indicted in 2003 by a grand jury for criminal acts of trafficking in a controlled substance, obtaining drugs by fraud and deceit, and unauthorized prescribing, dispensing, or administering of controlled substences.

During the investigation of all of this, it was discovered that he had become s-xually interested in a patient who was referred to him. During the initial evaluation, he performed a complete physical examination, including a genital examination, for the patient who had been referred for collapsed lungs and chest pain.

He then made the patient his office manager. Then he quit his job, and they ended up in some weird situation where prescriptions were exchanged for s-xual acts.

In 2005 he lost his medical license.

In 2007 he completed a clinical skills assessment, which demonstrated that his knowledge was "outdated and also contained gaps that would not likely be fully explained by his time away from the practice."

He showed that he "lacked competence with acid-based disorders, ventilator management, ventilator-associated pneumonia, and current evaluation and treatment of shock," which is hysterically ironic considering his current predicament.

"It was not clear whether Dr. Dao has a health condition that could impact the practice of medicine." That inspires confidence 😛

He had to complete a "Maintaining Proper Boundaries" program.

He was evaluated in 2009, which concluded, "It is the opinion of the assessment team that Dr Dao is not safe to practice medicine at this time."

He also was diagnosed with a mood disorder.

In 2011 he was evaluated again, with the following recommendations:

1) He attend a residential program to address his character deficits.

2) He completes a polygraph without evidence of deception.

3) He completes a professional boundaries course.

4) He submits to random urine and polygraph examinations.

5) A highly structured practice plan with a restricted DEA license is set up if/when he is able to return to medical practice.

He did go to a program, where his treatment focused on "his vocational s-xual misconduct, personality traits, depression and anxiety, trauma, and relational issues with his spouse and family."

The assessment he completed in 2014 noted that he demonstrated "significant and broad deficiencies in areas common to primary care," his knowledge of health maintenance was "globally inadequate," and he demonstrated unacceptable knowledge of basic physical examinations and medications.

Despite this, he was finally given a limited license to practice in 2015.

Honestly, if he was supposed to see any patients this morning, they're lucky that the crazy guy couldn't come into work.

I'm so sick of these SJWs. "UA's counsel is out to tarnish this man!"

NO! You won' stop mentioning he is a doctor so normal people wanted to make sure he is a doctor. A simple google search of his name plus doctor brings up his criminal past.

You people are so pathetic it's not even worth debating with any of you. Again, if you didn't want people looking his name up and occupation, you should not have used his profession as a tool to beat United with. You could have just stuck with him being dragged. But no. You had to go "but he had patients!"

The result? Simple google search and this guy has been charged with like 100 counts of trafficking drugs.

I love how UA's legal team is attempting to spread all this sh-- in a weak attempt to mitigate the damage THEIR clients have caused. Pathetic. Are all American lawyers this transparent? Where the f--- did UA hire you guys, a boutique law firm? Funny how all that education didn't teach you guys how to lie better, but I guess it doesn't come as a surprise given the state of the American education system.

@ycr -- The moment he, the media, and all these SJWs started repeating "but he is a doctor" is the moment his profession became relevant.

Should have never repeated it over and over if you all don't want people discussing it. Now, the cats out of the bag. I agree, it doesn't change things much except it makes me question

1) his judgment

2) whether he really was belligerent (as UA is claiming).

Normal doctors (hell, normal people) don't do the crap he's been busted for and they sure as hell don't put up a flight when told to get off a plane by police.

It doesn't matter what his past reflects or what his ethnicity is. He did nothing wrong.

  1. He clearly needed to get home.

  2. He was a paying customer

  3. He was "randomly selected" to give up his seat to make room for unpaid united employee after he already boarded the plane

  4. He was physically assaulted

  5. He was dragged down the aisle of an airplane in front of an audience.

That is all you need to know. This has nothing to do with his past. You never know what someone has going on in their life.
