Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Seriously Wake up people

VZ made $$$ hand over fist for years, they made $$$ in spite of themselves. now when the competition has finally caught up some, they are clueless where to turn or go to make profits. I was around for over 20+ years and left recently with a nice severance check. I feel bad for those still there and funny to hear people and i mean lots say, i want out, but want my severance. There is no loyalty or good feelings towards VZ at all. Everyone just wants there hand out to walk away and its sad. My advice would be to look now as soon the they will change severance packages and if STi was only 80% let year, what will it be with et loss of customers. for 2017?

I would like to correct the OP. Yes Verizon made $$$, but they spent $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

So there is there is that...You know, the $116 billion in debt they can't service?

I was thinking the same thing, if there even is one.

"I'm still trying to figure out how borrowing $130B to buy out Vodaphone was a good investment." To be fair, I think a lot of analysts didn't get this right. At the time, Wall St consensus was not giving VZ full "credit" for its very profitable wireless operations, because it was shared, unlike that of say AT&T. So bringing it all in house seemed at least something worth exploring. Of course, now it looks like a terrible decision for the reasons you state.

I'm still trying to figure out how borrowing $130B to buy out Vodaphone was a good investment. Lowell made sure Verizon paid absolutely top dollar at the height of Verizon's profits. The timing and decision could not have been worse.

@MWHSgw9-mwh ............ Wall street would love getting ride of 3% of workforce or 1 ceo. Getting ride of 3% of the workforce is a short term fix, getting ride of the ceo is a long term solution

Lowell needs to go. He only got the job because wireless was a cash cow for so long but a McDonald's manager could have run that business and looked good. Once he got into wireline he proved he doesn't have what it takes to evolve this company.

All they need to do is get rid of 3% of their working force, instant fix!!! Wallstreet would love that

The company deserves everything that's happening. They have become too big and arrogant. They keep beating their chest on the network which doesn't hold any weight anymore and we're ignorant on what customers wanted in terms of ignoring unlimited for wireless and refusing to build out fios.

The leadership is out of touch with what customers want. The downward spiral isn't stopping anytime soon and is only going to get worse. Verizon needs to hit rock bottom before getting better. Question is how long do you want to stay in the sinking ship?

Yeah point is get out of dodge before you are forced out. Bad times really??? Its been bad for years man... Feel bad as some people moving with company or being sold a line of BS are uprooting their lives moving to other states and then kicked to the curb, meanwhile folks in basking Ridge the Executives who all got their porches to drive in as a reward for piss poor performance just look for ways to slash headcount. Would be great to see VZ employees stage a "Sick Day" walk out like other poor work places have seen in past. maybe, just maybe the fools at the top or the board would take notice that their culture s---s and employees are miserable.

Do you have a point? I am sure active VZ employees don't need to be told to look around during bad times.
