Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

SJVBU

Why do folks at SJVBU put up with so much abuse from management? We work so hard here and instead of recognizing this, management keeps "optimizing" and not giving any career development opportunities. I have so much respect for my colleagues and the quality of work they produce. However, senior management can't seem to fathom this. I am not sure they have been held accountable for that Standard of work.

I hate to disappoint you guys, like @N2SQZZa-2zdy, but it doesn't matter whether it's Chevron, Shell, XOM, OXY, Halliburton, SLB, ConocoPhillips, BP, Williams, Marathon, or BakerHughes. "stay away from this company" would apply to all and if you ain't got the balls, stay away from O&G. It's all the same. You guys are fooling yourselves if you think that Chevron or any other megacorp is special in any respect as far as employee considerations, loyalty, dedication, affirmative action abuse, being overly PC, HES extremities, reverse discrimination, etc. Read all the blogs. We all have sites. Have you read the rest of them much? Chevron may be a little more active social media wise but that's a good thing in many respects. Working conditions and employee treatment are no worse and no better. I have worked at several of the majors which is common in my position. Good luck during these tough times.

Well, chevron/sjv answer to a solution is to create more process, more rules, more crp that takes a bazillion hours to do and have ppl to agree to and do not agree to. In example the design basis document that just rolled out last weekend. sigh*

5ejp- I knew a woman with a work ethic like that before I was laid off. The only difference is I am a white man who showed up for work in time and she was a black woman half my age. Go figure.

My boss in SJV rolls in at 9:00 and out at 2:00. She (err I mean he or she) doesn't respond to my emails and is clueless about my work. And this person is representing me with management?

2zdy- I formed the same opinion of Chevron. Work for Shell, Exxon, Hal, SLB, Oxy, ConocoPhillips, BP or BakerHughes instead.

And all they can come up with to challenge these posts is the repeated 'butthurt, deadwood' post of the mentally sick.

Not too fantastic of a first quarter, 2ikh. Did you just gloss over the financials and earnings call? Drill down a bit and ask probing questions that were not mentioned. The second quarter will be telling. Start reducing your stake in CVX stock now.

John would like to thank all you undesirables for a fantastic first quarter. Keep up the good work.

I hope all recent college graduates read this blog and stay away from this company. Chevron is the one of the worst companies I have encountered in my 40 year professional career. Being a staff employee means nothing. Being a second or third generation employee means nothing. My father was 40 year Texaco. They will release you before they release contractors and you will end up worst off because you will never get that pension carrot they dangle in front of you. You will dedicate your life to this company sacrificing your family and personal life and they will cut your legs off when you least expect it. The slogan should be human waste in lieu of human energy.

In case you missed all the other posts, here it is one more time. Chevron demands total loyalty and commitment from employees and will cut them off at the knees with no compassion when it is necessary. There is zero loyalty from Chevron to its employees. You have to watch out for yourself. I remember all of the koolaid drinking chevroids and lifers, who had only worked for Chevron, being laid off in late 2015/early 2016. The look of shock, disbelief and betrayal in their eyes and on their faces. The Chevron Way, Operational Excellence, Human Energy and all the rest that everyone believed was suddenly worthless, and you end up feeling like a fool. The older you get in life, the more cynical, jaded and skeptical you become. I saw managers laughing at all the empty offices and making comments about all the available space for new employees and interns. I, too was cut last year but had gone through layoffs before and was mentally prepared.

-gzy is correct. You are only a cog in the machine. You are replaceable, interchangeable or obsolete without much warning. Use the company to your best benefit, because they use you for theirs. Don't forget that.

Remember, you are just a number on a spreadsheet, another 'thing' in the corporate machine. That is just how it is. It is pretty much the same everywhere.
