Anyone know the numbers for UK yet?

I have an interview lined up for next week in anticipation but I am in the Ireland office. I think we follow the same procedures as the UK. A lot of people here looking over their shoulders but suspicions are the heavy axe wont fall until September, as usual.

@2qfg ahhh the famous 9-block!

The constantly updated mostly secret document that no one seems to know about? The one that's supposed to be produced from meaningful chats with employees but never actually happens?

The fabled document used as a massive stick during last years mass-layoffs to boot out employees who had no idea it was coming... At least with the previous review process you knew if your manager hated you. Now they can smile to your face and laugh about you with their peers later.

The 9-block comes out in two situations. The first is, "I'm sorry I couldn't promote you. You're in 8/9/6 in the block so perhaps in 6 months I can give you something?". The second is, "We ranked the team and did the LR process based on the 9-block. Sorry."

Great. Who wants meaningful career progression anyway right?

@1eqf - Don't believe that there is no effective performance review process. It might be under the covers, but the '9-block' assessment is live and kicking for everyone G11 and below. If you are bottom left, you are toast. I can't speak for G12+.

There's a legal process we have to go through in the UK. If there's more than 20 redundancies then they need to go through collective procedures which involves employee reps and so on. 20-99 needs 30 days notice and anything over 100 needs 45 days notice.

This takes time to prepare. They need to get everything nice and compliant before swinging the axe. Whilst they're very practised now, my bet is nothing will happen until June. Look out for an email from SG asking for reps.

Everyone else just hope your face fits. Having been a manager at Cisco I can tell you with no hesitation that the politics is very real. People will say to your face you're doing a great job and then laugh about you on management calls later. They have a bad news list and if you're on it then you should get that CV updated ASAP!

I heard that just under 100 from Bedfont Lakes, just to keep the consultation at 30 days. Probably just office gossip!

SE has been told to downsize by new CEO. Why do you need this much overlay which frankly I as an AM get no value from but just deal chasers who want in on my sales efforts. Just spreadsheet jockeys for which we could get grade 9 accountants for.

Heard from a close source that she is in hiding because she is going to have to axe a large number soon.

Bottom 5% being totally subjective as there's absolutely not effective performance review process in the UK. It's all kept on a secret list which can simultaneously act as a stick and carrot.

Personal feelings and managerial grudges will determine the layoff process. SEs don't have to worry - their younger and more talented colleagues are leaving for the competition giving the remainers job security for life.

Foul is fair and fair is foul. My prophecy:

Saying SE is going to cut her team for the sake of it, is the same as saying she wants to become less relevant to the business.

Replace bottom 5% and the elderly. Then rehire to become not only relevant again but also stronger.

plus there are a lot of resignations about to be handed in at the end of July, which will reduce the amount of LR's

No, unless bottom %5 or the elderly resign.

Why would any leader want to reduce their team size? Saying SE is going to cut her team for the sake of it, is the same as saying she wants to become less relevant to the business.

Numbers in the UK will be low. It's a pretty lean region plus there are a lot of resignations about to be handed in at the end of July, which will reduce the amount of LR's. However a rumour from someone close to our fearless EMEA sales leader is that he's not happy with the UK leader. I'm sure after only one year he won't get whacked, but the pressure is on which in turn means it will filter downwards to us worker ants. Just what we need at year end?

Wicked witch has drawn up her plans to carve up architectures. Nothing to worry if you're in the witches lanky leader team. The rest. You are toasted.

Probably wont be known how UKI and the rest of Europe are going to be affected for at least another month. Housekeeping always takes place in the US first.
