@1ife great points. Lowell found out the hard way that you cannot just throw people into the field and expect anything good for several years at minimum. He'll it takes 2 years just to locate all the sac boxes and central offices in any given county.

I pity a new hire in the landline side, as a tech, cluelessness is not an excuse anymore, you're expected to meet requirements immediately and that doesn't happen with new people for years, even those with electrical expertise.

Wireless NEEDS more. They got rid of techs in stores years ago and they got rid of customer service. They got sales reps doing everything and anything basically getting f---ed big time. This screws over your employees and the customers.

One problem with the hiring......any hiring would be done by the very, very, very insecure managers that only want to hire the worst of the worst so they can shine........God forbid they hire talent or even someone with a brain to make thing better for Verizon...they will hire someone that will not threaten their job.

Brutal vicious cycle that's killing Verizon in today competitive market

Wake up CEO.

lol at the temp fios hires in the north... I wish.. the average installer has 20+ years experience and is expected to complete a job in 1.75 hrs or face discipline... Good luck in hiring any millennial that could do that.. or even any hack contractor... The name of the game in the north is Metrics, and New hires won't and can't pull the numbers to meet the metrics.. Good luck forcing a 20something to work sat and sunday plus the other 5 days of the week when they won't be able to hang with friends..

Wireless was supposed to be, but is not, thanks to over saturation, the future.

Landlines were supposed to be, but thanks to wireless companies price gouging and limiting data, all but extinct by now.

FIOS is verizons future, but was only intended to be a temporary fix for copper until wireless took over.

Verizon wireless is not the future, but was supposed to be long ago.

Tmobile destroyed the wireless nirvana.

Verizon upper management will destroy the FIOS side as well sooner or later.

@mul u must not look at the careers website lol .

Fios is doing a massive hiring in the whole mid-atlsntic.

They are also hiring temp installers in the north.

They just finished a massive hiring north and south for tech support reps .

Meanwhile on the wireless (non union) side all non sales inventory reps got cut nationwide in 2 massive layoffs since October 2016.

Contract coming up. They will hire temps and they will work during a strike. Good bye union.

@mul

Not totally true....the company would be getting someone with only 2 weeks vacation instead of five, they don't get a pension, only an enhanced 401k, and they would start at the bottom of the pay scale. Much cheaper to hire new than to keep one with more than 25 years. They have already hired 250 summer temps in NJ and I'm betting most will be full time by the fall.

But there is already so much dead weight at Verizon. Just have all the VLSS people do the work.

Two reasons Verizon will not hire into the landline.

  1. The cost of hiring new employees is more expensive than overtime rendered to the

existing employees.

  1. New employees would be Unionized.

All the landline employees who took buyouts would be replaced by new workers without job security, pensions. Unless verizon plans to sell off wireline, they're going to have no choice but hire more techs as most garages are over the top busy. They'll be clueless, for a while, but cheaper for the company to employ and easier for them to discipline.
