@1ysa Loyalty has indeed gone bye bye its just not the same because people now adays as employees employers don't take care of the golden eggs. I been in the company for a while I work hard and I feel I am a golden egg, but yet not treated like one thats why I am pretty much leaving just waiting on a call and I am bouncing. I don't blame people that jump ships to get a better life style, in my store it just feels sad they think they are doing you an amazing favor when they basically give you whatever hours they have.

@1kcj In my store the store manager is the most useless he is the first one that needs to be let go he makes the most $$$ and yet does little to nothing to make the store profitable. After that I would say LP should be the next cut, and last but not least the ASM. Then Jewelery lead and the CAC lead than the rest if what runs the show (only one soft line lead and they fired footwear lead she was very good).

@akc- that may be true in your store and many stores. But not all. We have an SM and ASM, plus 4 leads. All of them are indispensable.

Yes please get rid of the overpaid lazy ASM'S and fine jewelry lead that cheets credit apps and customer surveys. And please let the softline leads go and Footwear lead go let them mca's run the store that's what they want anyways.

"I realize that alot of you are only marginally employable"

He said employable. That was insulting to the Sears employee stating that they aren't very employable. It was rude, hurtful and unnecessary

@lgb- not nice.

On the subject of leaving asap, well times have changed and sometimes it is necessary to leave asap. I'm middle aged and was always taught to give notice so I get that line of reasoning. But in modern times my experience has taught me that there is no loyalty in the employer/employee relationship. There was a time when one got a job and stayed for a lifetime. The employee worked hard and remained loyal to their employer and the employer gave a decent salary with raises and benefits. There was a clear path for advancement as the years went by. This is no longer the case. Employers will cut hours, layoff, dispose of employees at will. They will freeze pay rates, eliminate benefits and do what is best for the company. Well that door swings both ways and employees need to do what is best for their own self and their family and if a better opportunity presents itself there is no shame in taking it even if the new employer wants the person to start right away. At that point it is whatever the new employer wants.

The way I read that one post didn't say sears employees were marginally employed, but that maybe they were marginally employable, and that might explain their inability to find other work. But honestly, when I read so many posts from people getting only a handful of hours a week, that to me is the definition of marginally employed. I mean, it is what it is. No shade intended at all.

Expect the bottom 50% of directors to leave early Thursday. The company will finally transform when the fat gets trimmed.

@kiy Well good for you that you would just up and quit if a future employer wanted you to start ASAP. I would never leave without a two weeks notice and wouldn't think much of anyone who did. I also would not expect a new hire to start ASAP if they are employed at another job, I would think more of an employee who gave a two weeks notice! You must be from corporate and have no idea what it is like in the stores. Good luck to you at HE hope you keep your Cush job for a while. Us marginally employed people are just waiting for this all to end because it is tough working in the stores!

It already started today at HE. About a dozen people let go. The few I knew were in the promotional systems area supporting the loading of promotional pricing and were long term employees with a lot of experience and knowledge. They were very dedicated to doing their jobs well. More to come Thursday.

@rnl - I hire and fire in my position as well. However, many employees will not state why someone left or whether they give two weeks' notice or not but instead will only verify dates of employment. Someone can leave abruptly and no one would be none the wiser.

I think that the customary two week notice really depends on the situation. A lot of people find themselves not being able to give two weeks notice because they have been called for an interview and hired in less than a week's time, and their new employer asks them to start ASAP. That is different than someone getting angry and walking out for good or someone getting revenge by leaving their employer short staffed. Even then, what were the circumstances? And if the tables were turned, would the employer warn its employees that a layoff was on the horizon on a voluntary basis?

Not saying that not giving two weeks is right or wrong, but if everyone is replaceable and isn't valued as an employee, it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things and is just a minor inconvenience. Twenty more people will line up to fill that one spot.

@hhw: I worked for Sears for almost 30 years, in appliances, and was in the million dollar club regularly, even my last full year. The money I made was quite good, and I was there long enough to have a nice pension to roll over into an IRA, as well as a hefty 401k. But in early 2015 I had finally had enough, and found another commission only job (only way for a salesman) that pays better. And all they care about is sales volume, warranties, and that you show up for work. And no, I wouldn't hang around and be miserable for a possible severance package. Ask those laid off from Sears Canada how their severance packages are working out for them.

@lgb Oh I am looking and who the hell are you to say I'm marginally employed, do you think you are above all of us? I apply every day and I interview also haven't gotten anything yet but I'm still looking. If i get let go it would be a blessing I would have more time tio look for a job. I do hiring and firing in my position and I personally wouldn't hire anyone who just up and quit their job. Do you think quitting looks good on a resume? Think before you spew!

@lbg if you were getting 20 weeks of pay wouldn't you hang on for a bit knowing it was almost time for you to go? Or do you make so much at Sears that your willing to let it go, of course maybe you aren't getting anything because you haven't been there long enough. I think most on here are long time associates who stand to lose up to 20 weeks of pay depending on how long you been there. Yes we are miserable and we know it's coming to an end we just want our chunk of change before we go!

If you people aren't happy with your work situation, then move on. Good God, I don't believe Sears has anyone chained to their work station. I realize that alot of you are only marginally employable, but surely there is another place for you. Use the time you spend whining and moaning to look for another job. Sears isn't highschool, and it isn't mandatory.
