Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Cisco will layoff 20K in Aug 2017 and another 10K over FY18

Cisco is planning to lay off 20K outright in Aug 2017 and another 10K spread out over FY18.

That will take total headcount reduction to 30K. Cisco Is anticipating atleast 5 to 8 Billion USD in savings per year and Cisco will spend more than $1 Billion on Severance packages as one time cost. It can go up to $1.5 billion if Cisco wants to give generous Buyout packages.

Chuck wants Cisco Blue badge to be around 45K. He wants to all out to reduce the headcount and make Cisco viable business for future. News is that most of H1/L1s will be laid off as there is growing backlash about foreigners taking US jobs and its also very tough to justify hiring foreigners when Anti-immigration Rhetoric is at peak and lot of US Citizens with STEM skills unemployed or under employed.

Well I am over 45 and had over 20 years with Cisco and just found out I am being layed off. There was plenty of work in my group but that did not seem to matter. The product I supported is in high demand. Cisco is not the “best place to work” that it use to be. They have no loyalty to the people that helped make them great. I am so disappointed in the new direction the companies is going.

The poster who claimed that Cisco network connects robots and enterprise network is the living proof of the narrow minded people who is driving Cisco to the abyss. If Verizon for example is the main service provider for cell for thousands of successful high tech companies, that would mean Verizon would be leading. You dont lead in high tech offering commodity technolofy my friend.

$45k isn’t enough to live on in SJ. Apartments are $3k (for a matchbox). Good luck blue badges.

During HR Staff meeting in Italy (3 weeks ago) they announced that Cisco is working (via LR's) to get average age of Cisco employee <42 years old and/or move away of Grade 11-12 employees. Both are getting hand-in hand, because it take a while to get to this grade a Cisco.

Temps cost 40% cheaper than FTEs. Chuck is smart and he knows how to manage his business. We will see Red badge head count swelling to 50K globally and Blue badge to 45K in next one yr.

I agree with you. This is just some geezer planting a fake post. Think about it. The OP seems to know what Chuck's plans are. Is the OP on the board? Of course not.

Good comedy value though.

"its definitely rumor, please don't spread"

Its not a rumor. Its just some w*nker spreading lies to get a rise out of people. There is no logic to what he/she is saying. If you have red badges in that proportion a manager would spend most of his or her time managing their training and all the admin that goes around managing red badges. Plus think how much effort goes into recruiting decent talent and then getting them up to speed.

Rumour....no. Its great big dangly, round your knees..love plums, mate.

Cisco will be slowly moving away from hiring permanent employees to hire resources based on demand and employ them for few months. Its more easy and cost-effective.

Fast turnaround with employees without experience in a given system is dependent on ramp up time and with no documentation and management that actively discourages teamwork Cisco can't make this work. A litany of past failures driven by these issues plagued not only contractors but whole teams of existing Cisco employees temporarily pulled off one program to salvage another.

Cisco will be slowly moving away from hiring permanent employees to hire resources based on demand and employ them for few months. Its more easy and cost-effective. They dont have bare social security, health cost, Bonuses, or career aspirations of permanent employees.

This model is slowly getting adapted. This makes companies maintain leaner payroll and still able to support huge projects and deployments and innovate when needed.

This year Cisco will be reduce overall Blue badge headcount. They might hire "On-demand" red badges for immediate project requirements. Cisco will fire close to 40K Blue Badgers and may be hiring back only 10K people Blue Badgers to meet the business needs. Overall Head count reduction will be close to 30K Blue Badgers. You may see a surge in Red badgers in your campuses or short term contractors.

Chuck Robbins wants to have total Blue Badge headcount at 45K by End of July 2018. It will be achieved one way or other.

Even India wont be spared this time as many expect Bangalore will absorb all the jobs. Its going to historic bloodbath ever seen in US corporate Tech history.

You are conveniently forgetting that actually headcount tends to go back up to what it was throughout the year. So yes, there are LRs but reality is recruitment is greater or at east equal to numbers let go.

Confirmed news

Aug 2017 - 15K layoffs

Nov 2017 - 5K layoffs

Feb 2018 - 10K layoffs

MAy 2018 - most probably 5K layoffs.

taking over all total to 35K layoffs. They are anticipating another 5K employees to quit voluntarily

Total people leaving Cisco in FY 18 should be around 40K. Current Strength is 72 K - 40K = 32K

Cisco is expected to acquire more companies and hiring in growth areas. Overall Company strength should be around 40K to 45K Blue badges and another 15K red Badges.

A layoff of 15,000 is certainly possible, á la Aug 2009, when Cisco announced plans to reduce FTEs. In the end, they met their savings goals because so many volunteered to leave early and take a separation package that Cisco stopped around 9k or 10k and didn't have to release the entire 15k. But 20k is ridiculous: that's nearly a 33% cut! No company can announce that kind of cut unless it's hurtling toward its doom and shedding everything it can to stay alive.

My management has given absolutely no signal of impending layoffs. For RTP alone, there are numerous job postings.

Now I do believe that Cisco is constantly evaluating BU performance and will drop units that are unprofitable and acquire new ones in markets where a profit might be made. That's just business.

As for our annual bonus, I doubt we'll get the full amount but we won't know until July 31. We're entering the legal quiet period and ELT can say nothing at the moment.

I for one believe this post to be credible and true. I feel I am likely to be one of the 30k leaving next month with no prospect of future employment. I shall now proceed to throw myself out of the ground floor window.

Cisco is not laying off 20,000 people, the company was able to manage out thousands. I'm still astonished at all the people that have quit the company.

Aliens have secretly landed in San Jose and are plotting to take over Cisco and other large companies. A trusted source indicates that the aliens have plans to replace top executives with weak and compliant look-a-likes. If this happens at Cisco, one way to tell alien from human is that humans have a proclivity to hold all-hands meetings via Webex and accept questions. On the otherhand, replacements are believed to avoid interactive events at all costs as the delay to obtain answers from their alien masters prevents real-time interaction. After aliens have complete control they will order their human underlings to travel to strategically placed 'technical' training camps where the humans will be modified for direct alien control. Once all Cisco employees have been converted into puppets they will be virtualized and transported to a new location to provide EaaS (Employees as a Service) to Fortune 500 customers. TAM is believed to be in the hundreds of billions as EaaS provides customers the opportunity to layoff employees and replace them with virtual cloud employees that can be added or dropped to meet business needs.
