Women Leadership- a joke

Does anyone else find it comical that Verizon pretends to value women in the workforce?

After attending the 2017 Women's Leadership Conference, I realize it was just a show.

Let's pretend that we care about women in the workplace by holding a conference for them.

When you hear upper leadership directly telling people that the next leader they hire has to be a woman because they have done a poor job in the past hiring women, you quickly start to realize that we are just a number and a stat to fill vs. actually truly seeing us as value.

The time to jump ship is long overdue.

The "Women in Wireless" group is a joke. It's nothing but a "check the box"to make VZ look good to the EEOC . We all know it's who you know, not how you perform. Fact-- B2B reps male/female handed deals (literally) to make them look like strong performers and they get promoted. Then, there are reps with horrible territories no matter how hard they work, numbers will suffer ( try selling M2M solutions to a law firm and see how well you hit your numbers) These are great employees that will always have an up hill battle to get promoted. Just claim a law suit and the company will cater to you. Follow the rules as a good corporate citizen and you will get no where but drilled on every thing you do or don't do. Save yourself from a dysfunctional company and move on. Opportunities outside Verizon are endless. Trust me 15+ yrs. In the business, I know.

Give it a rest. I've worked with plenty of lazy white guys and I'm a white guy. I've worked with chip on their shoulder white ladies and then crazy efficient and workaholic white ladies as well. I've worked with amazing whites and blacks and losers of all races and genders.

I think the common thread with those who are just flat out not as good is the concept of entitlement. Does the person allow a sense of entitlement impact their work. That feeling of entitlement can happen for various reasons:

  1. Age and experience (I've been here a long time so I deserve blah blah blah).

  2. Race or gender (I know they need me regardless of how I perform)

  3. Education (my education is better or cost more so I deserve to be treated better)

  4. Who you know (I can afford to do less because my friend.family member, etc. will never fire me)

  5. Union affiliation (I can take the company for granted because they can't fire me unless I really screw up)

What I'm saying is this is not a race thing, a male vs female thing, a union vs non-union thing. There are good and bad in each group. I have seen amazing union folks and lazy non-union. I've also seen the opposite.

It all boils down to entitlement. If you feel that some rules don't apply to you for any reason, then you are part of the problem.

It is a joke, in May of 2015 they did a huge Mother's Day thing featuring a VP as a working Mom, then in July she mysteriously "retired" only to show up 2 years later in the same position working for a competitor. What a joke.

Verizon gives bonuses to leaders for hiring or promoting minorities including women. This is why so many unqualified people are in their roles and it's impossible to get them out.

Verizon has always been the good old boys club. My current director is proof of that.

I'm old skool as I believe you hire the BEST without regards to race, s-x, etc. So if you have a bunch of old white dudes who are the best then so bet it. If you have a bunch of old white dudes like lowell, however, obviously you didn't choose wisely, you just chose a Don Knotts lookalike.

b---s---, no one said that at the conference or anywhere else. I can't speak for your experience, but my department has done an excellent job of hiring and promoting qualified women. I think you're a troll.
