Getting rid of mobile phone plans

Not sure if this is global, but at least in the US, they now are planning on getting rid of company provided mobile phone plans wherever possible. I'm impressed by how and where they are looking to cut costs. This place is a joke.

No, you will not keep your phone, only your service. In AMS, if you currently have a company supplied mobile phone which breaks, it is the employee's responsibility to replace that phone at their own expense. The company only provides carrier service. This policy is in place even when 24x7 support is required. Which means, if you refuse to purchase your own phone you cannot perform your job function.

It starts with the phone, soon they ask for a laptop. And both device they'll put their security and tracking softwares. I pay for my stuff you are not getting your hands on it. If you want to me to supply my tools like a mechanic then don't put software on it to encrypt and lock it down. Where are the days where company paid half of your internet bill at home?

There a few people on here smoking something funny. Why should an employee surrender their own personal mobile number and allow the company to use it to conduct it’s business?

The world is slowly going mad!

It's quite simple, if DXC want to reach me when I'm not at my desk, or for me to read emails when I'm not at my desk THEY provide me a mobile phone otherwise they go take a running jump. I can't wait to send the email to my customers "Sorry I am no longer deemed worthy to have a mobile phone so if you need to contact me please use my Skype number 123456".

They are already asking questions about DXC, this will only confirm all those articles they've read about how bad things are at DXC.

What is clear is the employer / employee relationship in DXC and America as a whole is getting more contentious, and it's being driven by employers that continuously cut pay and benefits while increasing hours and lobbying for anti-worker legislation.

Exactly @2iha & @2rge ! When it was my turn on the rotation, I turned the s---er on. When I was not, it was shut down and I didn't power it on a minute sooner than the start of my rotation. Had HP/HPE given me raises and decent bonuses, that may not have been my attitude, but that's what they deserved from me. You wanted to push all the work elsewhere, then let them handle it when it's their turn. Project Managers incessantly ringing my phone for work past 5PM?? Forget about it.

This - I am on call 24x365. If you take my company mobile don't expect to be able to reach me.

'Most people have cell phones these days and most have unlimited calling so whats the difference. Now you only have to carry one phone :) ‘

The difference is that my cell/mobile phone is my personal device, paid for by me. If the company wants me to be in contact when i am on company business then it needs to provide the tools to facilitate that.

@PAbDy9P-2lyr It's not about the voice minutes. When you connect your phone to the corporate email, they push down certificates to manage your device. Once that is done, they can see everything you have on your device and they can also wipe your device. Do you want them to have control over your device? I certainly do not.

HP/HPE stopped paying for a second phone for me years before I left, and I had pager rotation escalation duties. I refused to hand my personal cell phone number out and got a google voice number.

They are not planning this, this is fact! They have said that now for over a year, is your head in the sand?

CSC/DXC hasn't paid for my phone service in over a year. Most people have cell phones these days and most have unlimited calling so whats the difference. Now you only have to carry one phone :)

The justification for retaining a mobile plan is just wishy-washy BS. The most appropriate justification is that you are providing 24x7 support for clients with SLA response time, and if that is rejected then your response time and offsite availability should diminish too.

Maybe the intention is to move everyone to Verizon or T-Mobile?

Same in EMEA but it's nothing new. They would periodically run this exercise in EDS/HP/HPE.

If you are on-call and have an SLA response time you will keep your phone

If you are directly client-facing you will keep your phone

If you have changed roles and kept a phone then it seems to reasonable that the company don't want to pay for your phone bill if you don't actually need it for work

In our region you need to buy your own mobile and can put it in expense until a limit . strange, because on the other hand they are planning to further digitize the company and we will all need our mobile phone for all the apps that will be proviced
