Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Anybody else worried about Intel's Q3 results?

Somebody said in another thread that more layoffs are coming if the Q3 results are not satisfactory. Now, whatever the higher ups will consider satisfactory, I don't know, but I am sure it will not take a lot for them to decide on another layoffs round. Any predictions on how we do? I actually don't think we'll do that bad, but I've been wrong before.

Layoffs for Q4 are a fact and done deal, implementation will be staggered and rolled out during the next several weeks. Q3 earnings report will be abysmal as AMD has successfulky taken more than 5% PC market share over the last two quarters.

According to Zacks Investment Research, based on 14 analysts' forecasts, the consensus EPS forecast for the quarter is $0.8. The reported EPS for the same quarter last year was $0.8. See the [Zacks forecast here:] (http://www.nasdaq.com/earnings/report/intc)

Intel's profit margins seemed to have peaked in 2014 and have been declining slowly since. [See this chart:] (https://finance.google.com/finance?q=NASDAQ%3AINTC&fstype=ii&ei=-D_cWbnsN8eO2AbkgpXoDQ)

Meanwhile Intel's debt position is likely moving in the wrong direction, but that is always open to interpretation. [See this article:] (http://marketrealist.com/2017/07/what-intels-price-ratios-say-about-the-stocks-valuation/)

Worried about Q3, no, but watching closely to tell when to short or dump this stock.

@qaw - Me, too.

@ffb - I agree - predicting layoffs is a futile game. This board has become more of laying the groundwork for the NEED for layoffs - by tracking the ongoing problems, delays, cancellations and failures of the BK era. The spending % target, 10nm depreciation, and heightened comp will all come together at some point in this 12 months - until then, the re-balancing is going to be standard fare.

Having watched this board for 9 months, I believe most of the "There are layoffs around the corner, here they come! There are layoffs around the corner, here they come!" (try to sing to "She'll be commin' round the mountain when" ... oh nevermind ... ) are just plain baloney.

As I've heard from my DCG buddies they have a req freeze in place, I also see external hiring still seems as healthy as ever ( see http://portland.backpage.com/MiscJobs/ for example).

Nothing will happen, or if it does, it is only the normal rebalancing of headcount from group to group.

Layoffs are planned. It will not depend on a quarterly performance. Spending is about 37% of revenue and the target is 30% by 2020. Most actions need to happen now to glide down due to lead time. First round will be declared this week. Notifications in next 2 to 3. Some groups will go first and they will stagger dates. My group is going down low double figures. SMG and TMG first. BU next but the planning is complete or nearly so.

@gkw - you are correct. Q3 is more than fine given some major intros that are ramping all summer. Q4 is probably OK from a revenue and margin standpoint but the XMAS season will have real competition this year on the desktop. MSS loss to AMD (2H17) and 10nm fab depreciation (2018) will start to hit, just not sure exactly when and how much. It will be an interesting earnings season, either way.

Q3 is fine. So is Q4 and so is 2018. These constantly mentioned "layoffs coming" have been posted for more than a year! Things are going great, all is well. Sure there are issues here and there, but which company doesn't have any issues! Intel's doing great, lots of budgets, good tcomp, lots of international travels on biz class, nice hotel, nice dinners, everything's great. GPTW. What more can Intelliers ask for?

Q3 numbers are fine, actually good for the historical soft quarter.

The bigger issue is how things are shaping up next year and do they move to ACT now or ACT when the $hit really has hit the fan, I think they will wait and it will be spectacular ACT
