Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

How reliable are layoffs rumors?

I've been on a verge of leaving Oracle for a while now. Still don't have a replacement job lined up, but that's mainly because I barely have time for anything but work. I don't doubt I'll be able to find a job once I really get into the search. I was wondering how reliable these rumors about an incoming big wave of layoffs are? Trying to see if I should wait it out for the severance, or just give up and leave.

“Cloud is not safe either. they RIFed people left and right in oracle cloud groups. Don't be foolish, half of Netsuite is already gone. No report on that either.”

So half of NetSuite got whacked? Or did employees jump ship? WTH. I thought that product line was the glorious one and that Fusion Apps would be phased out in favor of NetSuite. That’s what I kept hearing since last year. Is NetSuite suddenly a loser too? Oracle more than ever is truly out of control, in a continuous death spiral.

Layoffs are real, always unannounced. Reorg is constant with malicious intent to workers. If they gave you no incentive to work hard, then it is your sign to leave.

Cloud is not safe either. they RIFed people left and right in oracle cloud groups. Don't be foolish, half of Netsuite is already gone. No report on that either.

Your manager and director are looking to leave too. They don't tell you anything, not even after they are RIFed, because they got a silver parachute that requires them to shut up.

Well, I am a VP at Oracle and I tell you to only resign if you get a good offer somewhere. Chances are, any offer you get will be a better offer.

As a former director - I found the layoff rumors on here to be spotty at best. You are better off talking with people you know (IC5 or director and above) within the company than to believe what is on here. It eventually gets it right on this site, but at the beginning most of the rumors are wrong. Most people at the company at a lower level treat this thing as if its dead on correct because they have no other connectivity within the company.

I wouldn't postpone a resignation letter for a rumor read on here. Good luck in your future employment.

"Some of the SPARC and Solaris people got hints from the lack of clear future projects."

Solaris people were warned by some members of management that it was coming,

You have to check these layoff rumors with other sources and make sure they're just not repeating what was said here. The 9/1 and 9/28 layoffs were rumored within Oracle 3-5 weeks before they appeared on thelayoff. Some of the SPARC and Solaris people got hints from the lack of clear future projects.

Smaller layoffs don't draw as much internal attention. They're part of the slow-drip death.

If your planning on leaving anyway then stop doing the overtime.

Put in your 9-5 and spend the time necessary to find a new job.

Dont just quit because you dont have the time to search. You will miss out on a few months pay while you search.

I know of few Fusion Apps people RIF'd in Pleasanton this week. I did not see this predicted on this forum.

I saved Oracle several hundred million in quality, but when High End mfg hit the skids, asta la vista. You'll know when it's coming, prepare yourself.

look for a job and hopefully sweetly time it to get two paychecks at a time.

My advice is get out now unless you really know you'll have no trouble finding another job. It can take months. I was on the fence myself for a long time and wanted the package as a long time employee but now morale is so low and the environment is so depressing and toxic I have begun looking. I no longer care about the package. In the US I don't think it is worth it because COBRA is so expensive. You will be more attractive to employers if you still have a job, too

If you read the restructuring thread: @PA4bEb1

it's clear that Oracle intends to do a steady stream of layoffs for the next year or two.

Whether that affects you personally, I guess, would depend on your specific area... and unfortunately, how good you are at s---ing up to your manager.

Narcissists are intensely insecure people, they keep a close set of loyal "friends" around them. Not really friends, just people they can use for now, they can turn on anyone overnight. If you are interested there's a lot of info online about narcissists. Here is one link I just read: https://www.quora.com/Can-you-win-against-a-narcissist

Good stuff out there to help you understand what your manager's agenda actually is. These guys have collected at Oracle like flies on fly-paper. Sick, sick, environment run by a bunch of psychos.

Make time to find a new job. Take control.

On this site since 2015. I'd say it's about 70% accurate. Some rumors never materialized. Typically, if you see a spike in view counts, somethings is brewing. The Solaris thread had 50K views a month before they announced, that tells you something.

This is just too unhealthy to live with, get out. How can you be happy not knowing how your next day is going to be?

They’re real. Q2 is when the execs know if we’re on track with pipeline to make the annual numbers. They start bailing water (people) out of the boat early in anticipation of making the overall financial performance for the year end match up to their promises made. Heads roll if only to be replaced at the new year by a new person. It was the exact same last year at this time. The q2 panic with an eye to q4 year end performance.

U’re just in for a ride on The oracle crazy train.

Applications does it differently, they like to drop single to double digits of people each couple of months to keep low profile. I do not know why it is so sad, what are people feeling so sad about? the high pay or the bonuses? We know they do not exist in applications at least.

How reliable?

the storage/ZFS, Solaris, Sparc and WWOPS predictions were fairly accurate. That said, they had a lot more detail and posters than today's rumored layoff

Listen, I got laidoff early this week or as Oracle calls it, RIFed. It is real, the writing is on the wall, get ready and get out. You want to interview for a job and tell them that you are still working but you want a change instead of saying that they let you go , that will make a huge difference. You want to be able to pick the job that you want instead of just anything to put food on the table. It is sad but very real. Be proactive, do not wait for the flood to come to you.

I had same question as yours two month ago. I say be prepared and given how O treats employee in the past layoffs prioritize your searching over the work.

There is a fine line between holding out for severance and having a sure thing lined up elsewhere.

Your manager probably doesn't know about - or have any input into - how any layoff will affect you. Also, if you signal that you are leaving anyway, chances are you will not be laid off to save on severance. So, yeah, look for a good opportunity, or wait it out. But be discrete!

Wait it out. Maybe tell your manager you'd be willing to take a package. Could save somebody's job.

If you get a great offer, leave. Otherwise, wait it out for severance.
