Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

RIP IoT

WPA2 flaws... f--- it now...

https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/10/severe-flaw-in-wpa2-protocol-leaves-wi-fi-traffic-open-to-eavesdropping/

This is probably one of the most important news stories of the moment. This makes all the other major security issues of the last few years seem almost minor if it's as bad as expected.

So many homes and businesses rely on WPA2 and unfortunately there isn't a ready "better" replacement. Devices will still be sold with broken WPA2 and never updated as manufacturers can't be asked.

RIP IOT, I doubt many of the devices will get fixed, and now all the IOT devices in houses can be turned on the owners.

WPA2 enterprise appears unaffected but that's not in wide use or widely available and it sounds like it's next to be blown apart.

Sorry if it sounds doom and gloom, but this is a big one 😓

Do you keep the comatose patient on the ventilator another year or remove support? That’s the decision the family must make.

The question is when it goes up in flames and everyone else burns in the house, does RT escape in a Houdini like trick?

As for the layoff gawkers.... ark my words a clock is ticking for spark and those technologies dependent on it. There is no enhancement beyond a full reprocess or complete take over that will right the spark ship. And when it happens that is when the big layoffs come.

Enhance? The problem with spark is poor engineering and poor process. Other teams know more about sparks health at any time than any spark team. Their lack of attention and vision is very clear to those that eat the dog food. Microsoft would’ve tanked them over a year ago.... but no not here where ignorance reigns supreme.

The plan is to acquire a cloud company to enhance Spark. Good money after bad. 4 years invested and resources reallocated, with nothing to show for it. Microsoft ramping up their new Teams, and game over for Spark and a Slack.

Ghats interesting. Was speaking with someone today about how spark will single handedly ‘sink the ship’ and they need a process overhaul directed from rowan. But the feedback i got was rowan was too pre occupied with iot. So if iot tanks maybe (ha) rowan will do right and crank down on spark.

Another day, another protocol that can be cracked. Not exactly a surprise.
