Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Stay Strong 301

If I was not retired and was currently working at GE in Schenectady 273, personally I would be looking to get out before the layoff that is about to come. I have seen it way to many times! Mangment pushing numbers, treating the union workers with next to nothing for respect. The managers egos push for numbers and not guaranteed quality by the union. I wonder how GE’s customers would like to hear that quality is on the back burner right now in the plant. They just want numbers! Stay Strong 301 and tell your union hall to grow a set! Good Luck!

@PYKuds3-2pkk True, but it’s statistics not statics, lol.

It is only by luck that a fatality hasn’t recently occurred in Greenville. The EHS staff is good but understaffed and underfunded. OSHA requirements such as head protection and fall protection are ignored because it would upset employees if they were made to comply. Facility infrastructure is old and non compliant with current code enforcement standards. The facility group thinks they are grandfathered to old code standards even though they have constantly changed infrastructure that requires code enforcement permits and inspections. Greenville is non-compliant by choice. Unfortunately statics (six sigma math) will tell you that if GE Greenville continues down the same path multiple fatalities will occur. The dumb financial leaders can’t use finance jargon or balance sheets to figure out what is required. They will have to learn from a tradgety and that is very unfortunate.

Why stay? Next contract GE is going to break it off in the union hard! Get out now save yourself the stress! Remember last contract GE told the papers the union for over $14,000 per union member in benefits, must of been total for whole union. I only saw the legacy rate guys get it all.

Seems many that write reply posts are just jerks thinking they are the only person that does everything right. If the average workers don't support each other execs will just smile and be glad heat is off them. It's usually the weak minded and lazy that want everyone else to suffer just like them. The majority of people that are let go are good hard working people.

The same can be said for Energy in Greenville, SC. Years ago it was safety first, then quality, and finally production. It is now the complete opposite. Now they shove stuff through to meet the numbers...hoping the quality is there, and lastly safety. Several of us "old timers" in different COE's have been told that the money isn't there for safety projects or issues. It's almost as if someone needs to get hurt or have a serious injury for something to be corrected.

Like I said, GE can’t take away the pension you've already accrued...only a bankruptcy judge can. What GE can do is freeze the pensions altogether (meaning what you’ve accrued to date is all you’ll ever get) or reduce future earned pension benefit.

Read people, and educate yourselves...please don’t get stressed out over the nonsense posted on this board.

Here is a link to an article that explains what happens to pensions when companies enter bankruptcy. You may also go to the PBGC website.

A corporate pension is only guaranteed up to the pension benefit guarantee corporation (age based) limits. Anyone’s pension can be reduced if there is a bankruptcy.

Earned pension is not going anywhere. GE has a legal obligation to the pension. Lots of bitter and ignorant people commenting on this board.

Think you're safe cause you're retired? Think again.

That pension you count on will be gone in 2018, guaranteed.

Laugh all you like, but you won't be laughing in 2018.
