No more EISP offers

Years 1987, 1988 were the years when Vz hired many. No need to offer EISP. Soon they will retire with 30 yrs of service , realizing the company wont offer incentives

@2bhz

I think it will be more widespread than just Pennsylvania. They offered a very small and specific eisp, keeping a lot of employees on the payroll in a few states that already have fios builds ongoing or winding down.

@2lgs correct and correct. The EISP offered JUST before the contract expires will be simply to reduce the picketers in number. Less people striking=less strength...

And point one about FIOS expansion, it's going to be happening in an undisclosed area of PA after Boston is complete.

I've heard that there is going to be a huge fios/5g rollout soon and they need bodies right now. Also heard that there will be an eisp offered before the contract expires in 2019.

For all you sh-- for brains, if its much cheaper for the company to offer an EISP why aren't they doing it?

It takes 5 years for these 30 month temps to hit top pay...and that's if they make them permanent. 3 weeks vacation after 7 years...4 weeks after 15 years and 5 weeks after 25 years. Getting rid of employees with more than 25 years would save the company millions. It would take 25 years for the temp hires to cost the company what we are costing them now! Not to mention the new hires only have an enhanced 401k, no pension.

@npv

It would be much cheaper for the company to just offer an eisp to get rid of an employee who making 80k per year....ten years that's 800,000, not to mention the cost of insuring the pension....5 weeks vacation and 5 personal days...that's 6 weeks x 10 years...60 weeks vacation! And that's not including paid sick days. That's a lot of money that they could save just by offering an eisp. I don't think we've seen the last one. JMHO.

To all who replied, times have changed. Everything changes. @tge, your statement has some valid points, except its from a workers prospective , the company are the one who makes that decision. For example ,you mention hiring in the 60's and 70's, that groups was offered a 5 yrs to age and 5 years to service plus $500 a month till they reach social security. You will never see that again. That was in an environment when employees had more power. The cost incentives you mention are reasons to get them off the payroll, but it is also an incentive for the company to keep Eisp money (way more debt now then when they were Public Utility) to pay for the high debt load, another example of times and things changing . Like bank accounts / cd's and money markets, you will never 4% to 15% interest rates.

Wrong!! The company had a massive hiring back in the late 60's early 70's and they started to offer eisp's in the early 2000's. People with 30 years are probably in their late 40's to early 50's. They can work another ten years before they teach the age of 60...still too early for social security (if it's still around then). Why would the company pay thousands of employees who make anywhere from 50-80k per year for another ten years? They have 5 weeks vacation, are at the top of the pay scale, have ten paid sick days and 12 weeks of fmla to use (which they will when they get older), and the company has to pay an insurance premium for each member still with a pension. They WANT the older workers to leave so that they will have a workforce still in progression on the pay scale, only have 2 weeks vacation and no pension, only an enhanced 401k. Plus they are hiring them as temps for 30 months...like driving a car before you buy it...they keep the good workers and dump the bad ones. I believe that they will offer a more wide spread eisp before the end of the next contract...after the 30 month temps have been trained.
