Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Here it comes

GE's situation is a result of poor management and not related to economy BUT take notice that as the rest of the world embraces renewable power and carbon reductions the USA is in total denial. Poor decisions within our government to take the lead in the next "Climate Friendly" industrial revolution will be a major facet of our next recession. GE is becoming the face of a reality quickly coming to the USA. Also...no one is talking about the countries that are not being impacted here (Asia, Mid-East)...cheap labor and land keeps costs low and fossil demand still high.

I've just read this on GE Power board here ( @QC8DHMt-emb ), couldn't agree more.

From the Wall Street Journal's article today. Its a subscription so you will have to pay for the entire article.

"The growth in electricity generation over the next couple of decades is expected to shift toward wind and solar, technologies that don’t rely on the large turbines manufactured by GE. The Paris-based International Energy Agency predicts that renewable energy’s global share of power will rise from 24% to 40% by 2040. This trend can be seen in emerging economies, such as India, where coal’s share of power generation is expected to drop from 76% to about 50%, while wind and solar power rise dramatically."

They also had an article two weeks ago that states that wind and solar are already cheaper than natural gas and gusts of wind or solar energy from the sun isn't going to go up in the next two decades.

Face it, GE's Power's core business is going away and will never come back. If younger people plan on staying at GE for the next 20 to 30 years. Goodluck, GE power wont exist or if it does, it won't be big.

I second @moe ... GE bet their future on getting their hands into the Carbon Cap & Trade honeypot that failed candidate Clinton promised them. When she lost, they suddenly found themselves out in the cold, with significantly diminished influence.

Ridiculous. The US and China invest more in renewable sources than the rest of the world combined. Take your political ideology elsewhere.
