Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

All PHC meeting

There is an all PHC meeting on Jan 17. Does this mean PHC’s are “safe” from that next (250) layoff reported to media? Does anyone know?

Below poster, I think you are right! I saw a documentary on the Discovery channel called "Finding the PHC."

Apparently, these rare and endangered creatures are so hard to find because with a 10-contact-a-day requirement, along with care plans and four meetings a day, they are never able to leave their desks. Fascinating stuff.

Maybe it is an oversight @2mao? Maybe he doesn’t know unlicensed PHC’s exist, or maybe he thinks they are just a myth.

Like unicorns or Bigfoot.

Well, I'm an RN for nearly 20 years and was laid off. I did HEDIS and compliance before I came to Humana so I am very well prepared in these areas, yet they did not retain me. I have been here many years as well

“The industry as a whole is changing and all the big companies are asking for RN or LPN to do HEDIS, SNP, and anything to do with the case management.”

While this is true, I haven’t seen any indication that Humana is following suit. If anything, unlicensed associates are taking in more clinical tasks - care planning, nurse-only p/d sections, foot ulcer surveys, etc...

I don’t see a push to move in the direction of the other large insurers to require licenses, rather the opposite seems to be true.

He never seems to acknowledge anyone “clinical” other than the nurses....perhaps it’s an oversight.

@ 1oyz -- You said you have it on good authority that PHCs will remain. Exactly what is "good authority" in HAH these days? I'd really like to know. It's certainly not the coaches or COMs or regional directors because various ones have assured PHCs of job security in the past and been wrong in the end.

I noticed he was quick to assure nurses they're okay but refused to acknowledge PHC or HCMSS in any way. Looks like writing on the wall to me.

Okay, we get it. QNJJFPf-1oaq jumped the gun.

OP's original question seems to be, if they are scheduling upcoming PHC meetings, does this mean they are keeping PHC's? Of course, we all know things change quickly regardless of scheduled meetings. Has anyone heard anything about plans for reducing the remaining PHC count?

If it is for a layoff meeting it would be confidential. They are not going to do anything before January

@1ddo is full of crap and doesn't have any idea what she is talking about. Just fear mongering again. I have it on good authority PHCs will remain

Some people are so extra. The invite clearly stated it’s purpose.

And the Email said it was about the aquisition. They don’t announce layoffs in this manner, chill

@QNJJFPf-1oaq Stop being so dramatic. It is about the acquisition... Why try to create drama where there is none.

“PHC will be gone, due to changes and required RN or LPN licenses to manage members.”

What changes, poster? Can you send me the link on cms.gov? I do not see this information when I look, but I could be missing something.

If you read the financial reports and estimates you will see the writing is on the wall. Behavioral Health IS gone. It is under reorganization. PHC will be gone, due to changes and required RN or LPN licenses to manage members. The industry as a whole is changing and all the big companies are asking for RN or LPN to do HEDIS, SNP, and anything to do with the case management. If you have an MSW, you might be able to qualify for a role of some kind. It is across the board. Interestingly, enough the already depleted nursing industry are becoming more drained by the increased demand for RN case managers. Humana left the ACA, so prevention work by a PHC is not needed any longer under the new strategy. What ever that strategy is, it continues to align with all the manage care companies. Reduction in costs, Utilization Management, Risk Management, Increase in STARS ratings and HEDIS compliance. Not to mention making the shareholders happy and maintaining profits. Don't hold your breath on hope, just start looking for a new job.

Right, not a layoff meeting, but the fact that there is a meeting at all for PHC’s shows they will be keeping some PHC’s in 2018, likely? The question is, how many?

I don’t think they’d schedule a layoff meeting that far in advance, maybe it’s just the start of your quarterly town hall time s--- meetings?

Good question about open enrollment.

You are not safe. Routine meeting scheduled and they many times cancel these meetings if layoffs occur. I do wonder about the results of open enrollment
