Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

$50,000 Christmas party at Global Research?

Since the original post was flagged and removed (hit too close to home, VA?) I figured I’d restart it and see what happens.

To summarize the deleted post:

ALLEGEDLY, The “unnamed” Senior VP in charge is throwing a $50k Christmas party, which several people have confirmed has been appropriating company resources (such as 3D printers making ornaments as Party favors), spending aggregious amounts of money (~$8k) on decorations, and god only knows what else...

My contention is that this party was either funded by past layoffs or will be covered by additional layoffs in the future. And my POINT was simply that in a two year stretch where people are getting laid off and we notoriously have $2.1B in spending cuts....this type of opulence is not unnoticed and is in extremely poor taste.

The sentiments shared here before the post was deleted seemed to agree and it seemed like the conversation was steering toward blowing the whistle with Flannery, which someone said they would be willing to do....and then it immediately got deleted.

Let’s get this going again...we’re not outside the content rules or terms of service for exposing this man for the Grifter that he really is...let’s do what we can to see this dinosaur of the Immelt-era move along into retirement. There’s no place on the board for this man.

Say what you want about ML and his team, but none of them worked from an ivory tower. It’s just a bad culture there. I’d have laid down for mark little and I’m not a company man.

Man, the master abate-r has got one huge set of nuts to be having any celebration in these difficult times. For all of you that wish he moved on that is not going to happen. He simply does not get it. No surprise, he came up through ranks under Jack and Jeff. Frankly, in his role at GRC he can’t screw up too much except tick off Ph D’s. Frankly, it easy to run a division where your senior leadership dictates they spend 10% of their R&D at your company think tank.

I'M the person willing to blow the whistle to JF or whoever needs to be notified since I am no longer dependent on GE (posted in last message board). Mc12@email.sc.edu..... I am not a disgruntled former layed off employee so I would be able to put together a logical and non-emptional message to whom it may concern. Also note, I since i currently do not work at GE, I do not have any current links

I know all of the holiday outings in Atlanta were self funded by the employees. How's that for showing your employees a little appreciation?

It’s not petty when they don’t spend money on things we NEED and then we have to watch them throw an opulent Christmas party. I thought there was no money? I thought we were cutting out spending? Who cares if it was budgeted for last year. We KNEW ABOUT THE CUTS LAST YEAR GUYS!

DONT FALL FOR THE RHETORIC! It’s easier to cancel that party and put the money to use...and that could be made public as a sacrifice. It’s definitely the optics of it all.

I wouldn't call that being petty as much as understanding that money is fungible. If cash flow is such an issue, I'd think cancelling a holiday party would be much easier and more effective than laying someone off. But I guess I could be wrong.

Holiday Party funded by layoff's? Give me a break and stop being so petty. Holiday events are typically funded during the budgeting cycle of the department or business - which was last year.

It’s amazing how smart those with MBA’s think they are. I plan to start handing out their home phone numbers to our gas turbine customers. Since they are so smart, they can have it. Good bye!!!

Less opulent? Nice. I'm glad they just went with the silver ornaments instead of the usual platinum.

It's not really even the money spent, is it? $50K is a drop in the bucket of the billions of cost out we are supposed to get. But it's the optics. People who live paycheck to paycheck are stressed out and sick because they worry that they are going to be laid off, and executives give tone deaf parties and all-hands with no regard to them. Add to that how Flannery is trying to flout himself on the street as some no-nonsense cost-cutting wizard....but one of his employees allegedly used GE resources to print custom ornaments? It doesn't look good on anyone.

While it is true that this party took place, and probably in poor taste considering the current corporate climate... It was actually LESS opulent and indulgent then in previous years, as were those of other organizations.

To the poster that said the site should be run by a scientist: I completely disagree. The site and each organization inside the research division should be run by people with MBA's. Let the science people do the science, not manage the day to day operations.

@QQzSJMb: I was not aware that a posting on this board can be taken down. Who can do that? GE management can't do that.

Airlines should be run by pilots and airplane experts

Hospitals should be run by doctors and medical professionals

GE GRC should not be run by a RAT

What the hell is wrong with GE?

It’s non stop spending. It never ends. Holiday parties, lunches..everyday reason to have things catered from the outside and spend. Without a care of whose neck is rung next.

The atmosphere is rampant with a nearing employees.
