Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Whew I made it this time!

While I did make it this time and I do feel for my co-workers that were released, I know it is only a matter of time.. 2018 is just around the corner, will it be in April, maybe March, no matter what it is still coming again.

What a "GREAT" environment to work in. The wireless side of the company has paid the bills and bonuses for all these executives for years. Enabled some even to retire with millions in severances and yes they have even enabled their friends at the Yahoo Executive Board the same.

While I do know this is inevitable, I'll continue to ride it out, but for the commercials to continue to scroll on our TV's about "being the best," that is starting to deteriorate. The competition is feasting on our companies dismantling. The numbers for support are being devoured by the all mighty $ and the Gordon Gecko's of Wall Street.

I used to be proud to work for the company, I did drink the Kool-Aid but now it is just a paycheck that I will ride out as long as possible, the time is inevitable whether March, April or even November the bomb to implode the company is set and it is "T minus and counting."

I wish all good luck!

I always used my personal days first because of the risk of loss (and you cannot carry them over). But it turns out that in some states, including mine, you DO get credit for them when RIFd, So I got a little bit more than I expected.

For the last five years I would not tell anybody who or where I worked. Threw away my old jackets and polo shirts we used to get with Verizon branding on them. It was just a paycheck and I always used up my 'personal' days when they were accrued so there was no loosing them when I got Rid'd. Good advice in the other posts...Better yourself while you have the ambition to do so...then bail as soon as you can.

Wireless may have been making a lot of money, but they used the Wireline network to do it. And we are deeply in debt mainly because their acquisition. Seems right that wireless should put some skin in the game for once.

@OP, good for you (?). Dont let your guard down, start writing your resume. Use vacation days and Go on job interviews to realize what you are REALLY worth skill & pay wise in open market vs Verizon.

Use weekends for online training & development (you know you will be distracted if you do it at work)

Do Not waste your time looking for a internal VZ job, they are for Who-You-Know only.

Rack up Overtime and use vacation days wisely(so you can get paid for them When/Not If you get RIF'd in 2018.

Lastly: Keep your mouth SHUT about your plans.
