Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

GE revenues and profits plunge

Anyone here consider that the reason for the layoffs is........(Gasp!), revenues are down hard? Nope, a few mentioned cost cutting but practically nobody wants to talk about the reality of GE's finances and core business, which is dropping fast, by their own admission.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-ge-layoffs/general-electric-lays-off-workers-at-power-business-in-new-york-idUSKBN1DV63E

And could it be the reason for less power usage is the same reason thousands of retail stores are closing, the healthcare industry is collapsing, and practically every major corporation is laying people off?

Nah, everything is awesome in fairy tale land!!

Flame on, and whatever you do, dont take your head out of the sand, because if you can't handle this little bit of reality, you sure as H_LL wont be able to handle what you find if you actually start looking.

@yui Scary it’s gotten to this point. I am surprised every day that this sham economy hasn’t collapsed yet. Most corporations are run by inept cronies and psychopaths, when you see who’s at the the whole mess in this country makes more sense.

The only jackass and fool on these comments is you @QycmGIq-ntr, considering you cant even respect someones else's opinion without insults and fowl language. Must have a low IQ but think you know everything. I have no need to debate with you about freaking corporations good or bad because at the end of the day your in the bottom and face layoffs just like the rest of us. Grow up and if yiu dont have anything positive to say, keep it shut.

My sarcasm meter broke while reading last comment :).

What original post was saying is you can have revenues holding up while business is tanking. Read 3Q report from JF and you see small drop in revenue for GE power but a big drop in margins (1%, 50% respectively).

wind, solar power costs are steadily falling. Gas and steam can't compete with free fuel of renewables. Germany had negative consumer rates few weekends when there was excessive wind. How does fossil fuel plant compete with that? They squeeze their suppliers like GE, Siemens.

Like the old saying goes - how did we get here? Slowly at first and then all of a sudden. Just ask Borders or Kmart. Exponential growth is hard to plan for using kinear models of incumbent players.

What seems to be the debate here? The national news media, Corp leaders and our politicians are trustworthy people and I'm certain they have my best interest. They have been telling me the "economy is booming! and "we're doing great!" Why should I believe anything different?

I'm not worried that national debt is out of control, quantitative easing is propping up the stock markets, local mom and pop shops are shuttering daily, healthcare and insurance premiums are on the rise, businesses and corps are shedding workforce at astronomical levels, taxation is grossly disparate across socioeconomic levels, US manufacturing and tax haven entities are being located overseas or in route, and indefinite wars on foreign soil running up the debt ceiling etc, etc..

I always trust what my EARS hear from leadership over what my own EYES can see. I'm still hearing that we're doing GREAT! It's really that simple.

Speaking of Research... Industrial revenue increased 10%

See page 7 of https://www.ge.com/investor-relations/sites/default/files/ge_webcast_presentation_10202017_0.pdf

How again does that qualify a plunging?

Too bad you dont do 5 mins of research before opening your mouth, because if you did, you would know that online sales as a whole makes up around 9% of total retail sales, and has taken 10 years to get there.

Yes, I know, you've read mainstream headlines that told you retail is collapsing because of Amazon and online sales, but they forgot to mention it's only 9% in total, which Amazon is only a fraction of. Welcome to what media calls a "public narrative" used to dupe fools like you.

And as for healthcare, maybe take 30 seconds and Google "healthcare bankruptcy news" and have your eyes opened. Jackass, next time do some research before opening your mouth.

"Well everything you said about GE happens to be true but your far off about other companies. Retail stores are closing because consumers are more into online shopping versus waiting in lines, not because the economy is a mess and people dont have the finances to spend. As for healthcare while it may struggle lets be realistic...people will always be sick so there will always be a need for healthcare. And no every major corporation is not laying off however, GE is. And even though i am still employed by this company (GE) I have 3 interviews scheduled in the next 2 weeks with other companies that are far more competive in salary and benefits than GE could ever be in this day and age."
