GE is not required by law to pay severance packages. I’m surprised they still pay it. Maybe HR will do a cost saving workout soon and eliminate the payouts upon termination.

What contract? Greenville is in a “right to work state”. You can be terminated without reason at anytime. And you can walk out the door anytime.

If I'm not mistaken the Recall Rights is 5 Years from the effective layoff date. For anyone who thinks he or she will be affected by the reduction in force, take the opportunity to sit at the round table with HR and Ask Questions, gather all the informations you need, filter what is best for you and your family, and what to avoid, then make the right decisions.

How long do recall rights last?

When the Seniority Lists get posted, look at all the Pay #s that are higher than your Pay # (do not look at the lists of Fabricators, Xray, TBC sprayer, Waste Treat, Maintenance).

Count how many have less seniority than you, then you basically know where you stand.

If you take the 12 weeks payout you will Cut Ties with GE, it is good for those who are sure to get another job asap and will not wait for GE to call you back. Yes, you can reapply to work for GE however keep in mind that GE mainly looks to hire Welders, Maintenance Technicians, and those on the Recall list are in front of you.

If you get Laid Off, you get 4 weeks IEA, 20 weeks unemployment, up to 1 year of insurance and $6000 tuition fee reimbursement that you can use to better yourself with some skills, if not to work for GE then for other businesses. If you find another job of course you don't have the unemployment checks and the insurance anymore, but still have recall rights.

Everybody is in different personal and family needs and situations and future planning. Some are best to take the 12 weeks pay and start another career perhaps with brighter future, some may be better off to be laid off and hope that GE will do better in the future and will call you back.

Look at your pay number on the list, see where you stand, weigh in on what will benefit you the best, 12 weeks pay and get another job and opportunities, or be Laid Off.

The future is unpredictable, but we have to plan for it.

What was the highest number you seen? and I think you can still reapply but just not get called back

I was in the last group to get hired and pay numbers were in the 7600. So if I take the 12 weeks of pay do I loose all call back rights and can I ever reapply?

I’ve heard the pay numbers are in the high 7700s but I’m not sure how true that is. So if you are above 7400 then it’s a possibility that you will get layed off

If you think about it, the bump system has already been done when they moved all those people back in December, the strange thing is people aren’t willing to do 04A work for 04A pay they still want there 02B or 01B pay after they signed the paper, everybody knew what was coming when they signed that, you will see a lot of machinists leave because they think there too good to do 04A work and pay

This is how the Layoff and Bump works. (Not counting the 4 untouchable Job Classifications that will not be affected by Layoff or Bump even if they have higher pay # than you).

1st. GE will eliminate the Voluntary Resignation applicants, then they will layoff the lowest seniority employees, i.e. the highest pay #, for the remainder of the 20%, after the resignations.

2nd, the Bump. GE has surplus numbers of Machinists and Assemblers. So, if you are an A machinist that are not needed, you will be bumped down to B machinist, if your pay # is too high to bump the lowest seniority B machinist, then you will be bump down to the lower job classification you had held before. If you have not held any other job, then you will be moved down to entry level job 04A. Even in 04A, you cannot bump an employee who has more seniority than you, in case GE needs to layoff more.

I hope this helps.

Not yet, but they should be putting a list of pay numbers on the boards soon so you know where you stand, but if your a welder or maintenance there is no need to be worried because they not involved in the layoff
