Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Lawrenceville rumored shutdown

Lots of hallway talk at the executive offices of shutting down the entire lawrenceville site.

Looks like Cisco is seriously thinking of diversifying the video business .

It was quiet around the lake today. It’s almost as if a sense of peace has befallen the campus. Even the ducks and turtles know what’s up.

4ahf “Generated a ton of cash unlike the other video acquisition fiascos”.

So - as you lie there dreaming of your past glories and pretending to work on a new product - remember that it’s NDS’ China DTH revenue paying for your white elephant.

Seriously though - both NDS and SA got royalled screwed by the dumb Cisco machine. Perhaps we should stick together? There’s a kind of dark chuckle in the thought that Cisco’s definition of “innovation” is to buy good companies, destroy them, and then sell them for $0.02.

Why don't Cisco sell LWR to Harmonic? While traded at around $3, they still got the balls to buy Thompson last year!!!

LWR was a full, bustling campus until purchased and crushed by Cisco’s bureaucracy. Sad, but regardless doesn’t Cisco still own the real estate? Seems it could make a lot more from selling the mostly empty site than retaining the low-margin remnants of what remains from a product perspective - the final step in cashing out the SA business. (And SA did generate a ton of cash for 10 years unlike the other video acquisition fiascos).

I used to work at LWR - those high walled cubicles were one of the best things - almost total visual privacy. No staring at the back of your neighbors head, or getting distracted by passers-by.

I had to visit LWR recently for a "cable meeting" and all I can say is that it was depressing. The cafeteria is awful. As an early in career person at the company I'm glad not to be in video or LWR. They have these cubes with partitions that nearly go to the ceiling. Some have doors. The upper floors are ok. The decor is dreadful and not good for creative thinking.

What video is based in Lawrenceville?

LWR to be used for set purposes in season 9 of TWD. Rumor has it the empty buildings, with empty cubicles and dimly lit area really enticed the AMC execs.

@rYVhSTq-mub

pretty much everything said from @RYVhSTq-btw is true. I'm the original person asking every thread "is lawrenville, GA affected", but now sick bastards are mimicking me. There is nothing to do in lawrenville in regards to video. everyone here is from SA and we are overpaid. Only reason why everyone is hanging around is because we are overpaid and we get huge bonuses... along with RS. I hope to stay longer (I have no choice anymore since my STB skills are useless and I can't get anymore interviews) and milk cisco as long as i can... I just hope its not true that cisco is going to shutdown lawrenville. Just 2-3 more years of salary, bonus and RS vesting and I can pay off my 600k house then I would not care if cisco shuts us down. I love you chuck robbins!

I'm sure it's very comforting to call the folks in LWR stupid, old and lazy. It makes you feel in control, and that it won't happen to you next. Do you have any insults for the engineers impacted in RTP and BXB today? Perhaps they deserved it too. I heard some of them were old.

But don't worry, your site will be just fine.

OP - you’re making a mistake. You assume that Lawrenceville is somehow the heart and soul of the video business. You seem to think that it’s somehow the core at the centre of Cisco’s video capability. Well - let me put you straight on that one. It’s not. LWR is a laughing stock even within VSS. It’s stuffed full of overpaid clowns. The VPs? They’re all sh--. The engineers? Old, and lazy, lazy lazy. Overpaid, too.

Are y’all leading VSS? Are you? Are you really? If I were stupid/lucky enough to buy the shell that is VSS, why, I’d be sacking you fools first.

Please don’t take this as abusive or critical - I’m just stating facts.

I mean - what did you sacks ever actually deliver in the last five years? You know, stuff that brings in revenue?

Have you built the glorious successful product that you’re so aroused by?

Er, no. It’s basically sh--. No one is actually buying it.

Net Brazil - a free trial - is in deep sh--. The CEO hates the UI.

How many people - honestly - are working on product in VSS, right now?

The rest is left as an exercise for the reader.

P.s. Buyers - if you’re still there (unlike the ones who had enough sense to realise that there’s no growth there) - be veeery careful. Unless you can pick this up for peanuts then you’re spunking $$$ up the wall.

Divestment of video progressing well. You will have one of our top sales executives going with to comfort and inspire the team. Corp gets a nice write down which will benifit Q3 earnings. Couple that with the current silent layoffs and we can keep stock trending up
