Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Stay Positive

Simple facts:

If you work in a division making no money, work on pie in the sky projects, tough luck, you need to start looking - BRCM or no BRCM. Probably takeover should be least of your concern right now.

For those in mobile CPU division, and work on real sh*t, you will be fine, mostly.

There will be nepotism - don't want to write racially sensitive stuff, but you know what I mean - life ain't fair, but it's still beautiful - accept and move on....

Directors with no direct report - there should have been none to begin with - friends at BRCM confirmed that all Director with no title immediately are moved to Principle or level 6 engineer. So if you are one of those, you had a hell of a ride, say thank you to QCOM for the ride you had.

As for BLUE VS WHITE - Friends on this forum won't decide that, so we can bicker all we want, not going to matter. Don't fret over things you can't control.

Per my friends in BRCM, those who came via Broadcom acquisition or LSI, AND who are still there, their experience has been rather positive. If we can all take emotions out of the situation, and ready to listen - things aren't that bad at BRCM, as they are portrayed. What I learned is, you will know your fate, whether you have a job, you are on a 6 - 12 month transition or out the door first day, 2-3 months before closing (if that happens at all). No BS culture in BRCM, you work hard and you earn much more than what you were making before. Support organizations, unfortunately, gets hit much harder than any other groups: sales, accounting, HR, Ops.

R&D is the king and if you are working on profit making product lines, you will survive and thrive. Contrary to the news, Tan invest heavily in money making product lines, but no experimental stuff, no wastage of R&D or any resources unlike QCOM ---- yes I can taste my bitterness here.

Anyhow, we will get thru this. Read who moved my cheese, good book. No one likes change, but sooner we accept and take stock of where we stand in our individual situations, the better. Then you can decide what's best for you and your family, or how to best deal with the situation at hand. Don't live in denial, QCOM won't be the same, regardless of the outcome of 6th March vote, that's a fact. And there's no guarantee that one outcome will be better than other. Sun will still rise either way.

Just venting on this forum, and/ or looking at this forum 15 times a day for information on layoffs or the latest gossip not going to help. Good Luck to All :)

OP innocence is cute. QCT Opex is worst in the industry. All teams are bloated and will be cut by factor proportional to the bloat and SVP level P&L targets. If SVP wants 3 janitors instead of a SW engineer, their call as long they deliver on the P&L. That's fiscal discipline and financial Engineering for you.
