Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Who is PHC at Humana?

Dislosure - I am not an employee, I am a member. My company has a lively board here so I thought to see your board and hope someone can help answer my questions: Who is PHC at Humana?

Thank you.

Good luck and I hope you have more luck that my co-workers have right now.

It was not abandoning the member, it wasn’t a clinical relationship, it was their insurance company, and they could call the CS line for info. No one was abandoned

I’m sure they were referring to the members that actually were engaged. I feel for the poster - it’s tough.

@RjjURHP-1dxc Who abandoned who? It appears reading through these posts that many members were sick and tired of the calls and stopped answering. I see your point but just too many members were not engaged.

Social service workers can also be charged with abandonment, however that only applies when they are servicing the client as a mental health professional, and the termination of the relationship could cause harm, and PHC’s - regardless of their background - were calling as personal health coaches and not as mental health counselors.

You did the best you could for your members and they will be okay.

Below poster, I was under the impression that patient abandonment could only be charged against a physician, and only when the termination of the relationship could be proven to cause medical harm.

However, I get what you’re saying and it s—-ks. I just don’t think there is any recourse and the hope would be if a member is at risk of some harm of any kind, they would call their doctor. Hopefully we have provided them with the tools to make good choices going forward.

Judging by your post, you truly cared about them, so I’m willing to be they are better off than you think.

I hope so, anyway, for all of the members.

My heart broke after I was laid off. So did many of my members. I never had a chance to say good-bye and many of my member didn't have anyone calling to check on them. For all of those members, I have genuine fear for. It goes against ethics. Not only moral ethics of humanity but ethics of Social Work and Human Services. It is shameful. I was laid off in November and pray one of my member have enough nerve to really make a stink about it, join a class action suite for abandonment, and give to Humana.

The members love their PHC’s, too! It’s going to be really hard on some of them for that relationship to end!
